Moon shot in jam-fest closely guarded secret

Quote:
"I'll say they'll remember me," Moon said. "I won't say they'll forget about the last one (won by a Raptor, Vince Carter in 2000) because he did some great things, but I'm just going to come out and do what I'm supposed to and bring that trophy back to Toronto."
Can chicken suit give Kapono edge?

Quote:
"The hardest thing is obviously with the time and the amount of shots, if you don't start out well, it gets in your head and you start to press," he said. "The biggest thing is you have to be able to fight through a tough rack or a tough start because if you start to press, it could lead to a terrible time."
The things you see and hear, Vol. 2

Quote:
Ran into Andrea on the street, he looked entirely unimpressed when I asked him how the big day was going.

"Big day? Yeah, I guess, he said.

How, you may ask, can you tell he was unimpressed? He was even more dour than usual.

Moon guarantees dunk victory

Quote:
"I got it," Moon said. "I've got it in my pocket right now." Moon said smiling. "I believe in me and I'm sure those guys believe in what they do. But I think I've got some nice dunks. I've got a couple (in reserve) in case they do something crazy and make me go a little deeper into the hat. I believe in myself."
Lending a helping hand

Quote:
A group that included Raptors power forward Chris Bosh, two-time league MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns, defending MVP LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers as well as Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki and maybe soon to be Mavericks teammate Jason Kidd made the trek out to the Lower Ninth Ward neighbourhood known as Holy Cross.

There they spent a couple of hours painting, scraping and touching up a few of the nine homes in that neighbourhood that are being made liveable once again.

Raptors aim to seize spotlight

Quote:
But if Moon wins the event, it would be his first dunk-contest victory in three tries. Charlotte Bobcats high flier Gerald Wallace topped him in high school, and Moon finished third and second in two CBA dunk contests.
All-stars make assist

Quote:
He's an NBA fan, but he's not convinced the NBA's good works are making a big splash in his community. He sees the commotion a few blocks over and compares it with his own quiet, and still largely deserted, street and wonders whether the bucket is too big, no matter how many celebrity rain drops fall.

Dwight Howard ready to take flight at the NBA dunk contest

Quote:
Howard was tight-lipped Friday, but word is that he will update a Michael Jordan dunk and also attempt a stunning slam from behind the backboard, using athleticism more common with today's big men.

In the 1987 dunk contest, Jordan took off from the free-throw line to dazzle fans. Howard's version -- if he ends up using it -- is to either take off farther behind of the line or jump from the line from both feet. Jordan raced down court like a broad jumper and lifted from one leg.
