Simply embarrassing

By the second quarter yesterday, Maceo Baston was guarding 10-time NBA all-star Kevin Garnett.

Strategic coaching by Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell?
Garbo to go under knife as early as next week

Quote:
Garbajosa is anxious, of course, to get the surgery over with, so he can return to action as soon as possible, though the feeling is that he is probably out for the season, no matter what.
Garnett inspires on D

Quote:
"You look at this team last year. Paul (Pierce) didn't have the type of year he is having (this season). Kendrick Perkins wasn't playing with the fire and the passion that he has now," Mitchell said. "But you bring in Kevin Garnett and all of a sudden everybody's confidence goes up, everybody plays with a little more pride. What he brings on the court is infectious."

K.G., Celtics put on clinic

Quote:
"We got beat, bad, by a good basketball team," said Mitchell. "They're probably the best team in the league right now ... and they just drilled us."
Here's one-time offer: Some no-fee advice

Quote:
So here's the idea: Canada Basketball and the Raptors should partner in the purchase of a National Basketball Developmental League team. The Raptors could use the squad to keep a better eye on prospects. Meanwhile, a handful of roster spots could be reserved for young Canadian talent.

Celtics crush Raptors

Quote:
"It's hard to judge where we are right now because even when Chris and Andrea get back, how long will it take them to get back?" Mitchell said. "They can play in a game, but it doesn't mean they're in shape game-wise. I'm just looking forward to a day when we can get healthy and get guys in shape and then see what kind of basketball team we are."

Understaffed Raptors no match for Boston

Quote:
Toronto laboured from the start and never found a rhythm offensively. Toronto coach Sam Mitchell made one change to Wednesday's starting lineup, returning Ford to the unit for the first time since Nov. 20, when he suffered a stinger that kept him out of five of the next seven games. Jose Calderon came off the bench.

Without his fellow Texan, Bosh, in the lineup, Ford struggled. The point guard, who had 27 points on Wednesday, threw three of his trademark high-speed passes with a high degree of difficulty to unsuspecting teammates, resulting in three turnovers in the opening quarter. Ford finished with 12 points and three assists.

Wrapped up early

The Celtics' starting five had to work as hard in the fourth quarter as the fans sitting across from them in courtside seats.

Celts on a hallowed road

Quote:
The Celtics didn’t take full advantage of their size advantage during a 98-95 win at Toronto a month ago, so they were determined to do so last night, especially with Toronto missing leading scorer Chris Bosh (groin strain) and Andrea Bargnani (hyperextended knee) up front for the third consecutive game. Prior to the game, Rivers wrote on the locker room bulletin board: “Pound the ball inside.”

Toronto didn’t double-team Kevin Garnett down low as much as other teams, and he made them pay, pacing the Celtics with 23 points and six rebounds in less than 25 minutes.

“When I saw the double-team wasn’t coming as quick, I tried to make quick moves,” Garnett said. “I haven’t been happy with my last week of play or last couple of weeks of play. I watched film of myself, and I’m hesitating a lot. So I wanted to be a lot more aggressive with moves and getting my head up and finishing around the basket.”
