The Morning After The Night Before, XXVI

Quote:
He was ticked, it seems, at the efforts of Rasho Nesterovic and Jamario Moon, and rightfully so.

Here’s Sam post-game:

"Rasho takes the best inside guy and Jamario takes the best perimeter guy and the last couple of games we’re letting those two guys … get off to a good start and then it makes it tough."

Raps: No protection

Quote:
Mitchell's squad played last night in Seattle and were to fly overnight to Phoenix, for a game tonight at the US Airways Center. The flight is just under three hours and their arrival time in Phoenix was to be about 3 a.m., local time, having lost an hour flying from the Pacific time zone to Mountain time. It's likely the players didn't hit their beds until 4 or 4:30 a.m., which is a tough go considering that tonight's game in Phoenix is their fourth in five nights.
Sam won't rush Ford

Quote:
"T.J.'s going to come back when the doctors clear him and when he's ready to come back," Mitchell said yesterday. "And I'm not going to make T.J. feel like he has to come back now. That wouldn't be fair."

Something's got to give at the point

Quote:
Head coach Sam Mitchell trusts Martin to run the offence, but the 12-year veteran gives the team little production and if Ford is lost for an extended period -- like, the season, for example -- the Raptors are going to have to address the backup situation either via a trade, or by signing Roko-Leni Ukic, a Croatian playing professionally in Italy, who was drafted in 2005. That would mean buying out his contract with Lottomatica Roma, where he is averaging 11.9 points and 3.5 assists, and that could be expensive.
Raptors' defence sags against Sonics

Quote:
"Calderon didn't make too many shots, but I don't care if he's playing against the five of us, if you have 16 assists with just one turnover, that's just exceptional," Seattle head coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "That's why he leads the league in that ratio."

Sonics threatened by frantic finish

Quote:
"I was telling the guys, 'Please, can we take them off the three-point line and give them twos?' " he said. "We were up 16. 'Can we give them twos and run the clock down?' "
Green is a gem behind great game

Quote:
Still his biggest contribution was on the defensive end. He played Chris Bosh better than Kurt Thomas and Chris Wilcox. Bosh baited him into foul late in the third quarter when he caught Green with his arm extended and jumped into him for a foul. But otherwise, Green bodied and pushed Bosh off the low block.

And in the fourth quarter, he moved out on the perimeter to defend Jason Kapono after he sank two three-pointers to spark a late Toronto comeback. That's a heckuva statement when coach P.J. Carlesimo assigns the rookie to slow down the All-Star foward then puts him on the hottest three-point shooter.

Sonics find flow on 'O'

Quote:
But the Sonics began to figure out how to switch to the shooter and still contain Bosh, who scored just 10 of his 26 points in the second half on 4-of-13 shooting.

"In the first half, either he made his move too quick, or we were uncertain and didn't come down quick enough," Carlesimo said. "I thought we got better help to the guy who was covering Chris in the second half."

Said forward Nick Collison: "We didn't change what we did in the first half. We just did it better."
