Humphries finds game

Quote:
"He has been aggressive, he has been a force on the boards, he has been playing good defence, he has been knocking down shots. He has been playing an all-round good game for us," Bosh said. "We've been waiting on him to break out of his shell, and for a long time, he was having trouble understanding his role. But I think now he knows his role and he's not looking (for shots) at the wrong time. He used to try to force stuff and as a result he wasn't playing that much."

Quick-draw Kapono has Raps in awe

Quote:
Toronto's roster of jump shooters, in other words, need not apply for such buzzer-beating heroics. To catch a ball and shoot it in less than 0.3 seconds simply isn't humanly possible. Or so the rule assumes.

If you saw Jason Kapono at work in Indianapolis on Friday night, you might beg to differ. On an evening in which he scored a career-high 29 points and made six of his seven attempts from behind the three-point line, he notched one particular swish that, the morning after the mastery, still had his teammates talking. On the play in question, with 1:42 remaining in the game and the Raptors leading 96-90, Kapono took a pass from Jose Calderon. And to say he caught the ball and shot it wouldn't do justice to the minimalism of the movement.

The catch, in essence, was the shot. The ball was delivered to his readied hands, which were poised above his forehead and Kapono didn't waste an ounce of energy gathering himself or re-routing the rock. He simply sent it on its way with a fluid stroke and that usual beauty of a follow-through while a defender flailed in vain. There are volleyball setters who seem to spend more time fondling the sphere.

Celtics-Raptors Preview

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors won their first division title in franchise history last season. Repeating as Atlantic Division champs won't come easy with the Boston Celtics off to the fourth 19-2 start in their storied history.

The top teams in the Atlantic meet in Toronto on Sunday afternoon when the Celtics go for their first nine-game win streak in more than a decade and the Raptors try to win five in a row for the first time this season.
Quote:
``I wanted to be a little bit more aggressive,'' said Pierce, averaging 21.0 points to lead the team in scoring for the eighth straight season. ``Especially with Ray out, (I wanted) to pick up some of the slack and get us going.''

International flavor not to every team's taste

Quote:
Boston, however, joins Indiana, New York, Charlotte, and the Los Angeles Clippers as the only NBA teams without an international player on their rosters. Ainge said it is nothing more than a coincidence. By contrast, today the Celtics visit a Toronto Raptors team that has five foreign players, and an international influence in their front office and coaching staff.

"We have looked at international players from all countries and have come close," Ainge said. "We've attempted to negotiate with free agents. We've come close to drafting international players. It just hasn't happened."

Up Close with Royal Ivey

Quote:
Royal Ivey is all too familiar with T.J. Ford's history of injuries. The duo, now point guards for the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors, played college ball together at the University of Texas and have stayed close friends in the NBA. Ivey shared his reaction to Ford's frightening fall with HOOPSWORLD.

Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors

Quote:
Boston guard Ray Allen's absence was not a problem during Friday's 104-82 victory against the Toronto Raptors.

Allen, who missed Friday's contest with a sprained ankle, is also questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Raptors.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett combined for 47 points against Milwaukee. Rajon Rondo also tallied 17 points and eight assists for the surging Celtics.

Boston is 4-0 ATS in its last four matches against Toronto.

Pick: Celtics

Man alive .... what's going on with all the basketball players that are getting held-up at gun point? Shelden Williams is now the next victim.
