Raps stung by threes

Quote:
"These are the days you tip your hat," Raptors coach Jay Triano said.

"They made their threes. It wasn't the way they shot threes, we didn't do a good job of executing defensively.

"We were much better in the second half. It's not like we're going to keep five guys in and let them shoot. There are rotations and ways to close out that and we didn't do a very good job."
Triano can't get no respect

Quote:
But the more you watch Triano and the more you watch how comfortable he is along the sideline, any doubt quickly is erased.

In yesterday's matinee against the visiting New Orleans Hornets, Triano matched wits with Byron Scott, the league's reigning coach of the year.

The Raptors lost 99-91, but it hardly was Triano's fault.

In time, and perhaps time isn't on Triano's side, officials will begin to respect Triano as a head coach and calls will begin to go Toronto's way.

There were at least two calls that went the way of the Hornets that could have changed yesterday's outcome.
Raps pick up Voskuhl

Quote:
Just prior to the matinee tip at the ACC, word began to leak that serviceable big man Jake Voskuhl would be added to the Raptors roster, a much-needed big on a team short on front-court players willing to bang and defend the paint.

About an hour after the Hornets' 99-91 win, the Raptors announced the free-agent signing of the 6-foot-11 Voskuhl.

Loss to Hornets can't shake Raps' new-found optimism

Quote:
"Against this team two weeks ago, maybe we lost by 20," Jose Calderon said after Toronto was tripped up 99-91 by the New Orleans Hornets at the Air Canada Centre. "I see everybody competing against everybody.

"I can go home losing like this against this kind of team feeling okay. I cannot go home losing by 30 against Denver or Utah and the way we lost those games.

"We have to keep working on our things, Jay (coach Triano) is doing a great job with everybody. AP (Anthony Parker) is back now, we've got another guy back in the rotation. I feel comfortable, I feel really comfortable."
Hornets make it look easy with Paul leading the way

Quote:
"The biggest thing is he competes every single night," Scott said. "He gets on his teammates when they're not doing what they need to do, but he's not the one guy who thinks he can't be talked to that way. He takes it very personal when he feels he's not doing his job. He's a different type of superstar."

"He's the guy who picks us apart," Jay Triano lamented. "I don't even know what his numbers were; he just controlled the game."

New Orleans casts Paul over Raptors

Quote:
"We really wanted to keep him out of there, but he's quick man," said Jamario Moon, the Raptors' 6-foot-8 small forward who was covering Paul down the stretch in the hopes the non-traditional defensive look would somehow throw him off. "He's a little mouse. He gets there, creates some things and kicked it open for wide-open threes."

Paul shredded those plans by beating primary defenders and splitting double-teams with uncommon ease, using his ball-handling skills, smarts and low-to-the-ground explosiveness to get his shoulders past everyone else's hips.

"He's low to the floor, his feet seem like they're pitty-patting all the time and he's smart, man," Moon said. "That man's quick and he's smart and he can find anybody. I think he should have been a [football] tailback instead of a point guard."

Paul shows Raptors his bag of tricks

Quote:
The New Orleans Hornets had rolled in to Toronto and left with a 99-91 win, and there was a game-worn reminder of why and how the visitors did what they did dangling from a hook in Bosh's locker. There was some writing on the offending garment, which bore the number three and a four-letter name stitched across the back: "Paul."

Bosh requested the souvenir jersey from Chris Paul, his friend and American teammate at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. And the New Orleans point guard, while being held to just 12 points, was the official cause of death of whatever hopes the 10-13 Raptors had of beating New Orleans (13-7).

'Triano can't get no respect'. Isn't that improper grammar from professionals?

Most people say it in reference to Rodney Dangerfield.

there were more than a couple of calls that came at key times in the game once the hornets had the lead. a couple of carry balls on roko, a couple weak touch fouls on jermaine after he and Bosh were being raped at the other end... the refs make me vomit in the nba as a whole, and i am a ref!
