Pre-season lessons not lost on Ukic

Quote:
"I've talked to a lot of our coaches, Sam (Mitchell), Gord (Herbert), Jay (Triano), Alex (English) and Mike (Evans)," Ukic said yesterday. "After a while, they made me see what I can do.

"And the players on the team helped me, too, especially Jose, who knows so much about the position."
Painful revival

Quote:
"I'd like to be better at home this year," forward Chris Bosh said. "The year before last, we were really good (a franchise-high 30 wins in 41 games before dropping to 25 last season).

"It is harder to win on the road because the fans are so close to the floor," he added, noting that teammate Jermaine O'Neal had a running banter with some hecklers on Wednesday. "You try and be good on the road, but protect the court at home. Teams shoot a lot more when they're at home."
Keep the floats parked

Quote:
"Don't get out the floats and get the parade ready," he said as the team prepared for its home opener tonight against Golden State. "We have a lot to do. We are a work in progress."

Raptors' O'Neal hoping to impress

Quote:
"I think for the first two minutes we'll probably be really excited before we get going, but hopefully we don't get outscored and outrebounded like we did (Wednesday) night," he said.
Raptors' rebounding cause for concern

Quote:
“There were a lot of long rebounds that hit around the free throw line area that we collectively need our guards to get in there and rebound,” O’Neal said Thursday. “When they talk about rebounding, everyone thinks the two bigs are supposed to rebound but good rebounding teams have good rebounding guards. We can’t run out without the ball.”

Bosh, O’Neal and Andrea Bargnani, the three bigs who shared time in the game, combined to provided 22 of Toronto’s rebounds; the Sixers guards and small forwards outrebounded their Raptor counterparts 22-11.
Raptors locker room poll picks Obama in a landslide

Quote:
Which way did the millionaire hoopsters vote? Basketball hall of famer Charles Barkley once said, when his grandmother dismissed Republicans as the politicos of the rich, "But Grandma – I am rich!" All the same, Jermaine O'Neal, though his $21 million (all figures U.S.) salary makes him perhaps the richest of the Raptors, is among a handful of Hogtown hoopsters who say they have already voted for Obama, the Democrat. Anthony Parker is another vocal Obama supporter, as is Sam Mitchell, the political junkie of a head coach who's been known to gab about current affairs when the hoops talk dries up.

Rookie receives a baptism of fire

Quote:
"I was expecting [the pressure on the ball]," said Ukic, after helping the Raptors win their opener in Philadelphia. "I'm aware that everyone looks at me as a white, rookie point guard, but it's okay. That's my reality and something I will have to go through. It's normal, people will try to steal the ball from me."

O'Neal the difference maker in Raptors opener

Quote:
"I played 17 straight minutes in the second half [against Philadelphia], and it was 17 straight minutes where I didn't feel exhausted, and that is basically because I don't have to go down and I don't have to score every time," he said.

Playing with Bosh, he was actually able to catch his breath. But he won't get caught up in thinking that winning in Philadelphia, on the same night the Phillies wrapped up the Series, might prove beneficial to the Raptors' karma.

Captain Jack got tired playing 48 minutes for Warriors

Quote:
Then, there's the importance of Jackson's defense, which is unmatched on the Warriors. After chasing around the league's best point guard in Paul, it's likely Jackson will be asked to defend All-Star forward Chris Bosh tonight.

"I told the subs that I'm not going to play these guys this many minutes on this next road trip or for long periods of time, long periods of games," Don Nelson said. "So we're going to have to use our bench more as we go on."

That means possible relief for Harrington and Maggette in backups Brandan Wright, Anthony Randolph and Azubuike. Help for Jackson isn't nearly as available.

Roko's quote made me laugh:

Quote:

"I'm aware that everyone looks at me as a white, rookie point guard, but it's okay. That's my reality and something I will have to go through. It's normal, people will try to steal the ball from me."
And the Sun photographers do a great job once again, because I don't understand the correlation between a nurse and danger/caution tape.

If you're going with Darryl Hannah characters, why not go as the mermaid in Splash?

+ marks the target.

Getting back on topic, anyone else feel that Hump may become more irrelevant this year if our rotation plays hard defense like in game one?

Yup ... as I mentioned in the game thread, as long as we can contain Jackson and Maggette, we should be fine.

Jackson played the entire game the other night, and now they're putting him on Bosh lol. They are going to have to use their bench more beause they don't too often. I think in the 4th we will run away with it because they will be tired.
and yes Doc if maggette and Jackson, game over.
