An NBA season full of surprises

Quote:
"We've got a chance to make a move, definitely," he said. "In the Eastern Conference, I think seeds three through eight, I think anybody can be in there. We just have to make sure we tread water and put ourselves in a position to make a big run. Once we do that, if we can maintain it after the all-star break, we'll be where we want to be."
Raps better hope they do more than just float

Quote:
This team can't rebound. But the team is essentially built on Bosh and three-point shooting which is better than the Babcock-era plan of Bosh and lots of dribbling.

They're not physically tough. They're unathletic. The coach isn't strategically innovative.

And maybe there's some truth in all of that. But Mitchell makes a strong case that the purveyors of the church of possession-to-possession micro-management are the hoop world's false prophets.

"It ain't the Xs and the Os," Mitchell has said, more than once, "it's the Jimmys and the Joes."

Raptors ready to go on a run

Quote:
"The last two or three weeks, we've played really good basketball and we've played every day the same way," Calderon said. "We know what we want. We know our guys and where they want the ball and how they can score and our defence is getting better. We just have to keep working on that."

The key in that statement is the Raptors are showing signs of being able to duplicate performances one game to the next, which is a huge step in becoming a team that can churn out wins in succession.
Moon's competition

Quote:
The league has altered the format from last year. While judges still will determine which two dunkers go on to the final round, fan votes will determine the ultimate winner. Votes can be cast on SMS TXT message or at NBA.com after the final round. The dunker with the most fan votes will be declared the dunk champion.
Height of kindness

Quote:
Sharon said the visit appeared to have been kept a secret. "They didn't tell the nurses until the last minute because they didn't want the floor to clear."

Dejan Matic, 11, recovering from a brain tumour, was amazed at the players' size.

"On TV they look tall like my dad, but in real life they're very tall."

Raptors' season could go either way

Quote:
While Jose Calderon has played all-star quality point guard in Ford's absence, he hasn't been forgotten.

"[When do we miss him?] every game, man, when Jose is out there clutching his knees," Bosh said.

Bruce Arthur's mid-season award winners

Quote:
Rookie
Post pick: Kevin Durant, Seattle
Runners-up: Al Horford, Atlanta, Yi Jianlian, Milwaukee, Jamario Moon, Toronto
Pre-season pick: Al Horford, Atlanta
Question marks dog Raptors entering second half of season

Quote:
But the things that cannot be measured have been of greater concern to the team's brass. The sophomore has shown almost no aptitude for the centre position, looking lost in the post on both ends of the floor.

Even the man who drafted him, Toronto's president and general manager, Bryan Colangelo, conveyed disappointment about Bargnani last week on a Toronto radio station.

Well hello, thunder thighs.

Strange article by Feschuk. It starts off as though he's going to tear them a new one and then turns somwhat optimistic.

I won't deny being harsh, but I checked out the rest of her gallery on the Sun's website and her dumper is even bigger than it actually appears in the picture Doc posted.
