Raptors run into trey trouble

Quote:
"We let him get going early," Toronto coach Jay Triano said of Allen. "I thought we over-helped early and gave him a couple of looks. When a guy like that gets confidence – and he had it going – he's going to shoot the ball well.

"We made some adjustments after the first couple but by that point the damage was already done because he had his confidence, he was rolling."
Calderon nears free-throw mark

Quote:
In his 21 minutes, Calderon made all four foul shots he took, giving him 79 straight and moving him to third on the all-time list. Calderon, who has made 76 free throws in a row this season and had three straight to end last year, passed Calvin Murphy to move into third. Micheal Williams of Minnesota set the all-time mark of 97 in 1993 and Denver's Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf is second at 81.
Boston's still the team to beat despite recent struggles

Quote:
"A lot of the conversation is what we can do to get better and about the slippage at the end. They made a run and we talked about that because we've got to see this team again (tonight).

"It's always good to win, but we know we're better than we've been playing," said Garnett, who was a woeful 3-for-16 shooting but played lights-out defence on Chris Bosh (5-for-16 himself). "We're a team of confidence. We're not here to bully teams or intimidate teams. We play hard and try to make each other better every night. We're just talking about things like we always do to make ourselves better."

Allen expressway

Quote:
Before the first quarter was done, Allen had hit all five of his three-point attempts -- breaking the Raptors' record for most allowed in one quarter, which had been four and done 18 times. Toronto never was really able to crawl out from the crevice that Allen created with his white-hot shooting.

"I don't know how much differently we can guard that," coach Jay Triano said. "It's hard to blame any of our guys. They did a nice job of finding him on the weak-side wing.
For the Raps, the truth hurts

Quote:
The truth remains that the Raptors aren't that good, perhaps good enough to only beat bad teams, which really isn't saying much.

What they showed in beating a very good team such as Orlando last Sunday was that they are capable of playing at a high level.

It's just that they can't sustain it.

Whether it's acquiring a perimeter player who can attack defences and defend or the acquisition of a post defender, something must change.

The need for a backup point guard to Jose Calderon is so obvious that any exercise in revisiting this issue is pointless.
Who will Jay point to?

Quote:
A lot of what Triano is trying to instill with the Raptors, at least from a defensive perspective, is the philosophy being embraced by the Celtics, who deny the paint and funnel ball-handlers to the baseline.

Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau has received a lot of the acclaim. Thibodeau once was mentioned as a coaching candidate in Toronto and gets mentioned occasionally when NBA job openings surface.

Triano learned the no-paint philosophy when he served as an assistant under Kevin O'Neill. O'Neill and Thibodeau both worked for Jeff Van Gundy in New York.

Boston piggybacks on Allen

Quote:
Triano said it was more time management than anything for Calderon, who said he felt fine, but that his hamstring began to tighten as the game progressed.

Calderon is hopeful that with additional rest he will be ready for Wednesday's game in Toronto against the Chicago Bulls.

Celtics able to minimize Raptors' Bosh

Quote:
"We're going to spend most of the night trying to figure that out. They make it tough. They know how good of a player he is," Triano said. "Kevin Garnett spent a lot of time trying to stop him, and it takes away from his offensive game a little bit as well. But we've got to find a way to get Chris a couple more looks, some easier looks."

"That's what makes it tough," Bosh said. "They don't give up any easy baskets, and then before you know it, those jumpshots you normally make aren't going in for some reason.

"They make me work for everything. That's fine. I think I did a better job of getting the ball a little more. I have just got to make a couple more shots."

Celtics back on schedule

Quote:
Said coach Doc Rivers: "Ray is a shooter. I get so many calls, 'What's wrong with Ray?' I say, 'There is nothing wrong with Ray.' He's a great shooter and he'll be a great shooter again and eventually he'll make them. That's why Ray's great and a lot of other players in the league are good.

"A lot of players will have three or four games like Ray had and go away for a month. Ray believed the next shot was going to have to go in."

Idaho’s Canadian connection

Quote:
Neither the Raptors or Trail Blazers, however, have used their Stampede option this season.

But Kelly hinted the Raptors could assign a player to the Stampede soon, with a possible candidate being Nathan Jawai. The 6-foot-10, 280-pound rookie from Australia is under contract with the Raptors through next season, but Jawai has yet to play for Toronto after concerns were raised in September when he took a routine heart screen, according to a team press release.

"We have a situation coming up where we could very well could be going in that direction in the near future with a player," said Kelly, who has been with the Raptors since the organization started. "Right now we only have 13 on our roster so that is a little bit precarious, and then we have our own (salary) cap situation that we have to manage too. ... But we are definitely not adverse to using the D-League, especially when we are involved with a good program.

2nd picture looks much better than the first. In the first one, she looks a little too crack-ho ish for me.

In both pictures the outfit is so out of place from the background that it makes her look mentally deranged and confused.
