Default As Of Today: Was Drafting Bargs The Right Choice?

1) Yes, we all knew he was going to take time to mature and he's starting to show what he can become.

2) No, we should have picked someone else because Bargs isn't #1 quality/doesn't address our team's needs/is taking too long/other reason elaborated below

I have a better idea.

How about we go back every single year and pick out the guys that are better than whoever we took in every draft.

Sound like fun?

As for Bargnani.

Roy looks like a better pick, so does aldridge.

Neither by all that much if he keep simproving, Roy is the best of the three.

I'm a fan of drafting big. Roy is a great player, but I'd still likely pick Bargnani. If he maintains this pace for the rest of the season he's a great piece to have and I still believe that he can get even better.

If he can develop a go to move in the post I'd be more than giddy.

I though it would be interesting to look the decision now because Bargs is starting to play better and show why they picked him.

I still think we should have picked Roy, but only because he addresses our needs.

Bargs' recent play makes it a much closer call, though. I suspect that the results of this poll will be much more even than they would have been a few months ago.

Edit: Another reason to vote against drafting him is that his name is ridiculous. Then again, I like calling him 'Bargs.' It's fun. 'Barney' as a nickname drives me nuts, though. Veto!

I'm glad we took Bogut instead of Deron or CP3.

Oops...wrong draft.

As much as I think Bargs will be the 2nd best player from this draft class, no it wasn't the right choice at the time. When you have a jumpshooting finesse PF as your franchise guy, and you're selecting between like 8 relatively evenly ranked guys, then you don't take a guy who does the exact same thing. If Bargs was clearly the best player available then you do it. But he wasn't. When it's that even, go with need.

Bosh/Bargnani as a frontcourt was always super doomed because you can't win without interior post presence, both from an offensive and defensive/rebounding standpoint, particularly the latter. You CANNOT ignore those things, no championship team has won without them. It's the same mistake McHale made with Jefferson/Love. They're just not going to work together and eventually one will have to move.

So yea, while I think I'd rather have Bargs than Gay or Foye, in principle it was still a dumb move IMO

I mean it in the most endearing way possible, but his name is ridiculous! Any name where you can shorten it to 'Bargs' is necessarily ridiculous if you ask me! I did enjoy hearing opposition radio and television teams refer to him as 'b'argh-nanny' in his rookie season, though.

Speaking of names, Rudy Gay is pretty badass for not pulling a Marvin Gaye and adding an 'e' after Gay. It probably puts a dent in his jersey sales, though.

Perhaps BC knew that one day Bosh would be out and purposely picked an international player that will likely stay in Toronto.

I like his name. Really poetic. Andrea Barņani.

Because you thought/think the player can play the 5 eventually, which he is. You also thought that Joey Graham may pan out (3 years ago). You also had Garbo playing the 3 who provided defensive tenacity and could've easily been here for 4-5 years.

So, not a stupid move. In fact, it may have actually put us in a better position long term.

It looks a lot better without the G. Maybe that's what it makes it seem so ridiculous. Although what would his nickname be then? I vote 'The Barn.'

will people please stfu about roy...he wasnt even projected top 3 by any scout or prognosticator on the planet.i am thrilled we got bargs, weve seen the glimpses of unadulterated skill from a 7 footer.as time passes and he get fully acclimated to north american living and confidence on the court,he'll be an allstar..... if i was gm we'd be fucked right now.i wanted morrison or tyrus.i was adamant.i was livid when we picked Bargs and was so ignorant and anti euro it wasnt even funny.i was stupid.....im glad we got the kid.

My comment had to do with how it's spelled.

That's not necessary. As I said earlier, I was saying that it's endearingly ridiculous. I enjoy that his name is odd and gets mispronounced, and I like calling him Bargs.

The comment was meaningless and harmless. bogus may not have expressed himself properly at first, but he's explained himself now. It happens on a messageboard.
