Default TNT Crew: Kenny calls DeRozan a 'superstar in the making'

Yay or Nay??

Raptors vs Brooklyn Halftime report Game 4 -..." target="_blank">TNT Raptors vs Brooklyn Halftime report Game 4 -...

I think so far demar has been progressing pretty well. I forget how long he had to deal with being the bench player but I know it was for a couple of seasons. Once he was given the job to carry this team (along with lowry) I think he did a good job. Sure there are lot of things to work on but you can tell this guy works to improve.

Hopefully Kenny is right!

I mentioned this deep in the game thread. Nice praise, and not too far off in relative terms. He's come farther than I expected. I don't think a direct comparison to George was meant, but rather just a comparison to how each broke out to some extent.

As i said earlier, i just hope there will be no pictures of any johnson other than Amir.

DeMar never came off the bench, but he did have to play alongside Bargnani.

nay, but I'm very encouraged by his playoff performance, I thought he'd be much worse. There are way too many holes in his play still, but there's still plenty of time to plug at them.

Continue to improve his 3pt shooting and add some some strength to be able to defend the 3 properly, and who knows. He needs to watch a ton of film and improve his IQ - this series badly exposed this aspect of his game. Over and over they trapped him in the 3rd and he failed to recognize the play developing.

He didn't turn the ball over. His IQ is more than fine. He still needs to get better mentally, but for his first taste of this pressure it looks like he's on his way.

He was never a bench player he was put in the starting line up right away even if he wasn't ready for it but it's not like we had a better player behind him that year I think our back up for him was Antoine Wright

There wasnt much of a clear role for anyone. And sure Andrea was never a leader but at some point the whole Raptors organization depended on andrea to carry the team but failed to do so.

All demar needs is those 3 balls; we meed sign someone whose good with that and help demar in the off season; while at it teach Amir the 3 ball too

he gets tossed around too much by Joe Johnson....not there at all...He would be a Chandler Parsons if he played in the West...Good player but not a "superstar".

I'm actually way more impressed with his defensive acumen this year. His DRTG was always horrible and he always gave up more points than he scored; this year, he was able to right the ship, make better defensive decisions, keep his man in front of him, foul less at crucial times, everything.

In my mind, stars are not stars unless they can at least do an above-average job on the defensive end, which is why Harden does not pass the test for me. DeMar is obviously doing wonderful things on the offensive side of things, but it's his defense that has really taken the next step.

His facilitating abilities, vision, and willingness to pass have also gone to the next-level, which is obviously helped by better talent around him. Yes, he'll still occasionally take a bad shot, but it keeps defenses honest.

It's the little things that have me excited for his future - that, and he's 24 years old. He ain't done yet.

honestly i expect less than what he produce, and i'm a big fan.
But what i see in the first 4 games in the playoffs - firsts in his career - is hisability to fight. he seems to like he waited all his life to be in that situation, in the playoffs on big stage and he embrace it.
tonight was his best defensive game (or maybe second half) of his pro career. and that is what make me smile. i think he just realize how godd he can be or become and he take mesure of it. and that is a big step in his growth.
the sky is the limit.
(i wish the club offer him a big hard private workout with a defensive gourou this summer.)

how by the way, i tough of a niickname for our 2 (KL - DD) "superstar in the making" :
THE CHARGE BROTHERS !

nahhh, he's an idiot. he's an extremely reactionary guy that will praise someone based on one performance and if Derozan struggles in game 5 he'll be off the bandwagon.....that's Kenny smith

I would agree with this. He needs to do a better job of moving the ball out of those doubles. He's going to get doubled right from the tip of the next game and we need to get the ball moving and make they pay for using up two defenders.

In the third quarter he dribbled right into the double...then backed up slowly allowing them to close in with pressure. There was a play fairly late in the 4th where we were lucky that Alan Anderson fouled him in the double.

Otherwise he's playing really well. For a large portion of games 2, 3, and 4 he has looked like the best player on the floor.

Great post. He takes his man to man and help defense to another level in the last 5 minutes of games once foul trouble is taken out of the equation.

Sometimes he is missing the right pass, which he definitely was last night in the third and fourth where he wasn't hitting the big in the middle. Once it happens twice in a row though I blame Demar and the coaching staff. They need to step in and micromanage a few possessions to make that pass happen. However, the one time that pass was made, JV turned and got the ball stolen by Kirilenko when he tried swinging it to the corner, and neither he or Hayes looked excited to get the basketball.

All-star for sure. Star in the making ok. Don't know what a superstar is defined as, but he's not Durant or LBJ. But he's also not Jennings or Teague. Neither of those is a bad thing.
