Arrow TJ Ford candid about his time in Toronto

This was already posted in the dish, but I thought it warranted it's own thread.

Quote:
T.J. Ford, the former Raptors point guard, was looking forward to playing his old team. But first, a few minutes looking back.

“What did I learn playing in Toronto? I learned you don’t believe a lot of what people say, because this is a business,” Ford said. “I learned not every relationship you have is a friendship in this league . . . And I learned to believe in yourself, no matter what. You’ve got to believe in yourself—organizations stop (believing) in a heartbeat.”

Quote:
"Me and Jose, think about it—give me a better NBA tandem in the last 10 years,” said Ford, who had four points and six assists off the bench on Monday. “The only thing they could have done different, they probably had an opportunity to play us together more.”

Quote:
“You can’t take things personally. And I took a lot of stuff personally in Toronto,” Ford said. “I mean, I think I was the fall guy for everything in Toronto. But it was hard and it was frustrating because I gave Toronto my all, every night, whether it was good or bad.”

Ford said he still keeps in touch with a long list of ex-Toronto teammates, among them Jason Kapono, Morris Peterson, Fred Jones and Kris Humphries. He even listed Calderon and Bargnani among his friendlies. Noticeably absent from Ford’s rundown was former Raptors all-star Chris Bosh. Once close friends, Ford said they are no longer.

“I guess you could say we, uh, grew apart,” Ford said of Bosh. “No bad blood. We never got into any argument. Sometimes that’s how relationships end up. There’s really no answer about what happened. It just happened . . . That’s part of the NBA. It’s a business.”

It's nice to see him accept responsibility in that he acknowledges being too sensitive.... but there have been better tandems.

Interesting to hear about Bosh and TJ not being close anymore, yet Bargnani and Jose still being friendly. I only mention this, because after TJ left, there was the rift between Americans and Internationals.... maybe he was the glue, not Parker... lol. jokes.

I doubt it, Jack went to his new house in Miami when the Raptors were playing there.

I miss the TJ Ford we were fortunate to have playing for us the first season and 20 games that we did. He's such a passionate, firey competitor. He was fun to watch and listen to in interviews. A really shame it went down the way it did.

Perhaps Bosh ran him outta toronto?

Seems telling that he likes Calderon and BArgnani

TJ Ford was a competitor and played hard every game. I wish the same can be said about the current Raptors. It seems that only Amir and Bayless play hard every game. They'll be more stinkers like last night during the season, since the fate of the Raptors is dependant on Bargnani and Derozan:

"After being handed the starting role on a platter for the second straight year, DeMar DeRozan hasn't delivered on the expectations -- in particular, his jumper, which was marked as his main area of improvement heading into the season, has been a problem. DeRozan is shooting 33 percent from 16 to 23 feet, down 5 percent from last season. This has left him no choice but to force his drive with a predictable spin move, all too easy to defend."

That's hilarious. Yes - Bosh was encouraging the ACC crowds to rain down boos whenever TJ might miss a shot.

Read the article carefully SJ. He said there wasn't any bad blood. But of course he also said he was a starter even when he wasn't a starter. So who knows?

They also hung out in the summer. Jack was one the first guys he talked to about his decision. And Jack was attending his kid's birthday party.

Here's a thought - Bosh wasn't thrilled with TJ moping over losing minutes to either Jose or Jack.

Here's another thought - does TJ really have any friends? If the guy has any downfall in his career - it's his ability to lose more friends than make them.

The only person TJ can blame about his fall is himself. Jose beat him out of that starting position because he was flat out better than TJ. and to top it off TJ didn't handle the change in role well. Often times he tried to do too much on the court and there was a guy who was better than him and played the same position. Judging by the way things went down in Indiana it also sounds like he had similar issues there too.

No taking away from the fact that he's a nice guy or that some things may finally have sunken in. I liked him and hope that he regains a bigger role at some point in the future.

seemingly friendly - from his point of view

His first season here he was happy and everyone was happy. The picture where he and Garbo are yucking it up and supporting each other remains on of my favorite shots. Those were the days.

He was close to Sam, and then not so much.

My guess is that what happened in Milwaukee was not all on him, and that it fucked him up from that point on. He never found the ability to deal with stuff that he needed to deal with, and he had plenty of shit to deal with his injury alone.

TJ's main weopon was his speed, nobody could stop him, but he had a shitty jumper, which he could have worked on if he wanted too. Once the injuries (especially the ridiculous flagrant from idiot Horford) robbed him of his speed without a jump shot, he doesn't give you much.

For Demar and Weems if he sign back with us we just have to be patient with them. Tranio needs to bench Demar and Weems so they can learn like how the rest of the players in the league does it. Look at Amir it took him 4-5 year to become this good and he's still young. Also hope English is doing something about Davis, Demar, and Weems shoots its pissing me off.

I like how Jerryd Bayless is fitting in and developing w/this team juss as much as every other Raptor fan.

But man, if we could get TJ back to team up w/Jose for our Forderon for 48minutes + OT point guard situation back, then that'd be such a treat. I believe his leadership skills are absolute ace, especially for this current group of Raptors. He's like a Charles Oakley from the PG position: rare and makes your teammates better no matter what role he's given.

I just vividly remember wanting TJ gone.

So I don't get why there's talk of wanting him back. I may be forgetting something.
