the time has come

I think the time is finally here to compare the performance of Triano vs Sam.
Their records (when Jose, is playing) are almost identical:
Sam is 6 and 8 and Triano is 8 and 9.

So cast your votes ...

Jay just copying Sams offense last night and i think we will see more of that. Defensively we are better clogging the lane, but worse defending the perimeter, so thats a toss up. AB is playing better under JT, but only got the chance because JO went down, no bonus points for that. For all the guys that said a "good" coach would get Kap so much more scoring... no. I dont know, JT isnt that much worse then Sam, he isnt that much better either.

insight_tor 01-24-2009 12:17 PM

You should put one more option, "No one did a good job" and I would vote for :)

moremilk 01-24-2009 12:35 PM

well it's a either/or type of thing. Regardless whether they did a good or bad job (obviously neither one did something extraordinary), one must be better than the other.

I was really hoping Memphis would offer Sam the job that Avery turned down. For one, he would be a good fit there, with a young team that needs a strong hand, but it would also mean that his salary comes off our books which will allow us to pursue a big time coach more aggresively this summer.

Ugo Ferst 01-24-2009 12:38 PM

Well Sam has a better body of work, so since i think it's close, ill go with Sam until i see more of JT winning. I also think we would have a better record now if we kept sam

the_ raps_analyst 01-24-2009 12:40 PM

I say it has to be Triano because they of Triano playing Joey. Triano has been playing with a banged up lineup which didnt allow us to close out games. also he is playing Bargs at the 5, not like Mitchell who played him at the 3 which doesnt make sense.

Gurk 01-24-2009 12:52 PM

Jay has done a good job establishing rotations and offensive and defensive sets

Ugo Ferst 01-24-2009 12:55 PM

Prob smitch played him at the 3, because AB was showing no signs of improving at the 5 at that time, he wasnt boarding up or playing D, he wasnt scoring consistently, so he tried something to get him going, he never gave up on AB.

Thats is totally wrong.

Sam couldnt figure out how to get all three bigs quality minutes during the game.

It would have messed up his time allotment of entire first quarter, sit till 5 minutes left 2nd, halftime, play first 9 minutes of 3rd, sit till 9 minutes left fourth..

but yes Triano did do a good job. Its not rocket science.......its grade 3 math.

(2minutes a quarter * 4 quarters * 2 positions)/3 = MO SHATS

I need a report on how healthy Jose was in each game. Thankyou.

Yep - context means nothing. It's as clear as black or white.

How's this - Sam was the better coach when he was winning games that Triano would have lost, and Triano was a better coach than Sam when he won games that Sam would have lost.

Anyway it's already been made official when it was recorded in the Guinness Book of Who Gives a Fuck? (Thankyou Jon Stewart). So the voting is pretty meaningless.

It is difficult to choose between two mediocre coaches and also it is difficult to compare two coaches at different times. Traditionally, Raptors was playing better basketball starting middle December. Plus, Triano was an assistant coach under Sam, so Triano have his part of guilty for poor performance at the begging of season.

I agree completely. If Sam were still here, i think we'd have a better record( maybe 20-25). Although that's just opinion, as this whole thread is.

I credit a lot of Bargs' resurgance to the coaching change. Sam's hook was WAY too heavy the last couple years, a lot of games recently Bargs has started like 0-3 and then turned it into 7-14 eventually. In Sam's tenure when Bargs started out like shit or picked up early fouls he was gone for the half and then ice cold and confidence busted by the 2nd. And the SF... less said the better. I maintain one of Sam's worst decisions ever was benching Bargs after a poor shooting game in like Game 3 last year, that just fucked up him. When you give a guy the starting job, leave it to him for a while.

I also HATED the minutes put on Bosh/Parker/Jose earlier on.

And in general we're not making the super dumb mistakes like Kapono on Pierce all 4th, doubling off Bibby, etc.

Triano's had to deal with a lot more injuries and stuff too. He's not Stan Van Gundy or anything, but is still >>>>>> Sam.
