Raptors Tim Leiweke looking to leave MLSE??

Last week Bob McCowan mentioned that he heard several rumblings that TL wasn't that happy in Toronto and was looking to leave much sooner then first planned. I'm thinking, whatever it's McCowan.

He was just on McCowan's show and he was asked about these rumblings, his answer tells me he's gone within the next year. He said he wasn't looking to retire here and that his job is to put the franchises in a good position to win going forward.......what he said next disturbed me, he said "two out of three have been "fixed" and now we have to get the other team on track which is why we brought in .........".

Fixed?

Now, he was essentially just saying that he's here to make a few deals, bring in the right people to run the teams and bolt. Which doesn't sound like he's enjoyed his time here and his plans have changed.

When his conversation ended McCowan and Brunt said they've heard that there is a lot of bickering on the board between Bell/Rogers, his wife has hated the weather, and generally speaking it's a shit show at MLSE.

1) Bring NBA All-Star game
2) Get Renovations at BMO Field done
3) Bringing in the right people to run the teams
4) Bringing in two stars for TFC

Then bolt?

If that's the case it's unfortunate because he's brought some credibility, swagger and a winning mentality here while accomplishing alot in a short period of time.

He's a deal maker, now that he thinks he's hired the right management teams, is about to get BMO renovated, is getting 60Mil in renovations at ACC, got the NBA All-star game......what else would he do beyond that? Maybe the plan was never to be here that long once certain deals were made.

Can't disagree

As a fan it sucks because from the outside it seems like he places a high priority on winning and that defining success where as others in his position seemed to place a priority on making money and that defining success. I never been on the inside to know if that's really true but I believe that's impression the general public receives.

TL is maybe like that drifter who comes into town, cleans things up and when things seem well he departs, leaving the town in better shape then b4 and knowing that the townspeople will able to manage the town better from there on out.

I think he sees resistance to spending what is needed to get things done here, which i don't think is what he was thinking whem he came here. This to me is disturbing and doesn't sound great long term for winning in this city.

This is a shame if true. What I've liked about him is his honesty and unwillingness to sugar coat a terrible team or situation. He's make some pretty impressive moves this far, and certainly appears to have some pull, like how he got Jermaine Defoe to come here, having his mom meet Lebron. Getting the all star game here, etc, etc. I can't imagine someone would take a CEO position just to bolt the next year, regardless of awful the weather is. If this is true there are some really big issues internally with the MLSE. In terms of "fixing" the Raps and TFC, I'll agree when one of them or both are Champions. For now, they're in a much better place, but haven't accomplished enough to be fixed.

Absolutely agree, this is likely the case.

I'm in agreement...this is the vibe I got after hearing some of the same speculation and rumors. I like the philosophy of spending money to build a winner which will generate more money, sorta of like the Yankees and just the overall culture of that franchise and what it means to NY.

Or maybe Leiweke's ultimate agenda/goal was to bring the NFL to Canada but realizes that it's not a realistic possibility in the near future or in his career/lifetime,who knows...

Let's suppose for a moment that this is true. What bizarre conclusions can we draw?

1) It doesn't take much to create a winning sports business.
2) Or Tim Leiweke is amazing enough to turn around several franchises in the span of a year (also known as "everyone else must be idiots.")
3) Or Tim Leiweke is not happy with what he has here. Yet it seems like he has more or less total control.
4) Or Tim Leiweke is lucky and has no idea how quickly these franchises could reverse course.

That is not meant to be exhaustive, but to make clear the, frankly, weird ways of understanding this.

It could be he is letting this get out in order to get things resolved. And if things don't get resolved, he will look to get out.

Maybe he's an alien who has the power to see into the future and he did in fact fix all the teams, only time will tell if what he's done will suffice.

Hope it isn't true... We need leadership stability with the right leaders....

I don't think it's about spending...

I'm going with a form of #3.

Something has changed. Look at how he was talking early. Settling in here fully, buying in, embracing the city, and that he chose here, etc. Something has to have changed business situation wise. I don't think it's the people below him so it must be those above him.

And the add to that supposedly his wife:

"Let's go home. I can't live amongst these snow savages!"

I would've thought being owned by rogers as opposed to the teachers' pension would help in terms of a team not looking to be on a treadmill..

I guess I was wrong, and given the state of the leafs under rogers, I shouldn't have thought otherwise

Why were you wrong? Nothing is clear about any of this.
