I cant see how we're going to make 2 big trades and be able to add to the core without either getting worse and shedding salary, or adding salary for future years and getting a bit better, which is stupid.

Blow it up. Unless some ridiculous genius trade comes along, which it wont. Not for 4 years of Demar or 2 years of 40 million for Gay.

That's BC's way of building on the fly. Instead you'll get more Quincy Acy's, Terrence Ross's, and get them playing time to develop. That's Ujiri's way to build on the fly.-

That's also the clue to whether Casey will be retained- how does he see the roster and who would he play?
Players stuck at the end of the rotation are very unlikely to be good enough to become a part of the core group of guys on the team and are unlikely to be building blocks for us. The point of hiring a new GM was to have a vision, somebody who could actually follow through with a plan, unlike BC. That is one of the big things that separate Masai from colon jelly. Building on the fly is not a plan. By "building on the fly", you're reducing the impact a good GM can have, essentially turning Masai into a rich man's BC.

Casey will have a big impact on how we play. Depending on what is decided as the plan, Casey either goes against the plan or goes with it well. The Bargs deal (if it happens) will reveal a lot. If he deals him for expiring and picks then we expect a rebuild, which Casey, going into a contract year will not enjoy having 3 losing seasons added to his resume as a head coach, he'd probably get the roster to win some extra games.

Yeah, and it's not like you can actually plan for those.
It's basicallya choice between 1 and 3 - option 2 is a bonus in either approach.

I love the fact TL mentioned multiple picks if we go the blow out route - that is the key to success.

We should stay competitive until a year or two before the 2014 draft class becomes free agents.

Then, just tank for picks and clear cap space and build a super team from the free agents.

Im up for either 2 or 3. I don't think 1 should be an option right now, at least not until next year. Everyone needs to get off this Wiggins tank bandwagon. If we want him, we have to truly overpay in a trade with one of the true bottom dwellers just to get a shot. I don't see how that's worth it. We can't tank hard enough, look at what happened the year we ended up with the 5th pick...

The new CBA makes it so that only the players previous team can sign them for the full 5 years. Their team would also be able to offer more $$$ because of bird years. The NBA made it specifically nobody could be Miami again.

If there's ever been a time to do it, 2014 would be the year. If we could somehow manage to have two top 10 picks, we' have two impact players coming onto our team as 19-21 year olds.

Wiggins and Randle.

from what i understood none of the options leiweke mentioned included keeping this current core together. it was either tank, make major trades (which means trading pieces of this core be it a gay or demar etc) or mix of both which was his building on the fly.

Not good enough.

Raptors got stuck closer to the middle than to the bottom. They needed to go full tank mode.

Sure it's tanking. Just not effectively.

Don't know why anyone thinks this team has the pieces to swing any big trades or why we can build on the fly with what we have.

JV is our only legitimate piece, and we still don't know how he will pan out. Lowry is a head case with some talent, but we have him on a great contract. Demar provides empty stats, ditto for Gay. Amir is a nice hustle player but a 7th or 8th man on a contender at best. The rest of the guys I don't even need to cover.

Ujiri should do his best to dump Bargs, Demar, and Gay for expirings or picks before the season even starts. Keep Casey on and fire him in the first month (let an assistant take over). Afterward let the tank roll on. Only chance this team has is to snag a franchise player in the 2014 draft. Anyone who believes we have ANY pieces other than JV that we can build on is seriously deluding themselves.

Blow. It. Up.
