Thorpe: Hedo Turkoglu is the 2nd best SF in the NBA at the Pick & Roll

Quote:
Hedo Turkoglu is the best pick and roll small forward in the league, after LeBron James," says Thorpe. "So the conversation starts there. His ability to handle, penetrate, shoot, change speeds, be crafty and unpredictable -- all with excellent size and length -- that's a killer combination."

Not to mention Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani are two of the best high pick and roll big men in the league. I'm looking forward to see Hedo go to work with CB and Andrea.

Well when you look around the NBA at each team, most of them run pick and rolls with their guards if they have top quality guards, and if they have a top SF they isolate him(Pierce, Melo, Durant, even Butler). So yes, when you go through team by team Hedo is the 2nd best pick and roll SF behind Lebron. The main thing is a coach finally found what Hedos strength is and gave him the green light and his game took off. That should continue as our team is built around the pick and roll.

Turk and Calderon alternating pick and rolls with Bosh and Bargnani. Teams won't know what hit them or how to stop it. Everone on the opposition floor will have to be great pick and roll defenders or they will get eaten alive. Add Wright who can dribble drive to the rim or Derozan cutting across baseline for dunks and this will be a very tough offence to stop. It will not only take agility to defend them, but size also. Now that Triano says Chris won't be holding the ball for more than 1 1/2 seconds at a time, you can expect a quick ball moving offence that puts up a ton of points.

You still have to give CB4 his postups and isos to mix up the offence a bit though but Im hoping with the pick and roll being more effective with having Turk, Bosh will get deeper position, and more importantly, not have 3 guys zoned in on him everytime he touches it.

I don't like it when they say 'MJ of Türkiye' about Hedo. He is totaly a different player. The real MJ of Türkiye was Harun Erdenay but unfortunately he played in a decade when it was nearly impossible for him to make it to the NBA.

Much of the effectiveness of the Raptors pick and roll is going to be predicated on Bosh and Bargs setting decent picks. Hedo is used to having D12 wiping guys out with screens. I also hope the big guys will roll as often or more than they pop or they'll wind up being as much of a jump-shooting team as ever.

well ya, because he was the MJ of Turkiye, and the Marcus Banks of the NBA.

Good point. The screens that Bosh and Bargs set have traditionally just been them going through the motions, which is effectively useless, though Bargs did get more physical on his screens in the latter portion of the season. Getting some more contact on screens from Bosh and Bargs and keeping guys pinned down up top will be huge in getting clean rolls and pop out jump shots off the screen.

I'm just letting that description of Hedo's game soak in. That's all stuff that helps win games without regard to his own stats.

Either this guy is really good, or the rest of Turkey sucks.

You could be right. Kunter was a real superstar. He scored 153 points in 1988 in a league game (FB-Hilalspor) and 81 points of that came in the first half which reminds me of Bryant's 81 against the Raptors.

This is much less believable than 151 points. I'd rather believe Bosh scored 200 in the Olympics.
