Ummmm ... that isn't exactly a compliment now is it?

# Think a younger, bigger Courtney Lee. If he can learn to shoot like C Lee can.

At least it seems like DeRozan's biggest problem is his shooting, which is something that can be taught.

He definitely has good basketball IQ, something that is impossible to teach.

From what I'm reading around the internet, people are impressed with how good he is at 19. They thought he would actually take longer to develop and wouldn't be as NBA ready as he is now. Good signs.

I think it is a complement. It means he is ready to contribute this season, plus he is younger, which means more time to develop, and hes stronger, meaning he can work down low.

i think he'll be a solid NBA'er in the near-ish future...
whether or not he'll be a superstar is still to be seen. I'm glad to have him on the Raptors.

I wonder if he made Thorpe's Top Ten rookies ratings, but I can't see it because it's for Insiders only.

I think if DD can play the same kind of defense Lee did, we're set for the season. Not as good of a shooter, but a better slasher.

Me too. I guess he's got more star potential but if he has the same drive and poise as C. Lee then that's great.

We're not even really sure what Lee will turn into... He was just a rook last year. He certainly doesn't project to be a superstar, but he could have a breakthrough season and become one of the hottest players in the league, like Hedo did when he came to play for Orlando.

Lee's defense is there, and that's one skill he will not lose until age catches up to him. He can be a great player, or he could just be a very savvy defender on a good team (like Bruce Bowen was). It's too early to judge either of these guys. But both Lee in his first year, and DeMar in SL are off to a good start.

on our team he won't be asked to create, just to defend and hit open shots.

5. DeMar DeRozan, Raptors
Smooth and patient, with explosiveness and a sweet jumper. I love how DeRozan rarely dribbled himself into trouble and how crafty he proved to be around the hoop. And he rebounded and defended, too. He looks like he'll be able to contribute earlier than expected.
^ From the Insider article; he's behind: Blake, Harden, Evans, and Hansborough. Seems pretty reasonable, and it's good to hear some praise for a Raptors rookie.

I heard Harden didn't look too good

I think he did pretty well in Orlando. He played more games being in both leagues, so a few bad games here or there probably don't seem as bad if overall he did well.

Harden was just what everyone expected: Savvy and Calm.

I think the Courtney Lee comparison isn't that good, I don't think Thorpe has watched any raptor summer league games.

BTW, what players were on the bottom half of the rookie list?

Don't like the comparison. Lee's shooting and ballhandling was much more polished. I see DD as more of a smaller mix of Richard Jefferson and Marvin Williams in style, though obviously not in level yet

i really havent seen enough to make a determination, i dont put alot of faith in vegas or any summer league, hell, i have a joey graham jersey. Remember him?? One of the best pure athletes of his draft class, potential personified, maybe an elite defender too?? Yea, im not going there again

I think Thorpe is missing the point. Derozan is a prototypical super jock 2 guard, almost all of whom have a penchant for forcing the issue way too much. Thorpe forgets that although the hype machine loves all that in pre-season and on the HL films, the fact is, the BIGGEST knock on guys like this is that they DO in fact force too much.

A rookie who is dedicated to learning and playing conservative team ball in rookie League is a fucking diamond in the rough. I'm not sure what Demar's ceiling is, but honestly, he's showing me that he intends to be patient and learn from the bottom up.

Oh ya, that and he's averageing 20 and 6.... 6 boards as a guard, which EVERYONE seems to be ignoring. I love it.

I have A LOT of respect for Lee.

If "DeChosen" had a rookie season like him I'd be thrilled.
