Raptors Thompson wants to be a Raptor

Quote:
Thompson has been working on his jumper with former NBA player and coach John Lucas in Houston, shooting about a thousand shots a day. The workouts also include Cory Joseph, another Canadian who has known Thompson since the two were both 10 and who also was Thompson’s teammate at Findlay Prep.
If Thompson can hit some shots in his pre-draft workout with Toronto, that certainly would help his chances of being taken by his hometown team. Going No. 5 to the Raptors would likely be the highest possible selection for Thompson.
Thompson grew up a big fan of the Raptors. He recalls receiving autographs from Toronto stars Vince Carter and Rafer Alston as well as getting to know former Raptor and current Heat forward Chris Bosh.
“I think it (would) be a national headline, especially with Toronto the only NBA team in Canada and having a hometown kid come back,” Thompson said of going to the Raptors. “It’s almost like the Derrick Rose effect (of the Chicago native going to the Bulls) maybe times two.”
If it doesn’t happen, Thompson simply will continue his traveling ways.

there is no way we will pick him up...considering both williams and irving will be top 2, there are three guys (one of which is guaranteed to be available for us) that are by far higher on the priority list for BC and the Raptors than thompson (kanter, walker, knight)

even if we considered the risk, we are currently at an abundance of pfs, so in the end, the idea would just be an afterthought

only if either amir or Bargs were traded would I ever considering this being a possibility, and even then a very small one

I would even say Leonard is ahead of him, BC has mentioned him a couple times.

He's looking good. I think he can go as high as 8 (Pistons).

i would be happy with him if Davis was moved in a package netting a pg or defensive center.

It bugs me that he takes "about" a thousand shots. If I was taking that many shots I'd want to be able to say for certain that I took a thousand.

i always said that davis will be out toronto asap, so having a canadian young PF who want to come back at home and play for his team, would much more an asset than davis in the futur.

send davis in a package, and grab some pg or center, and that will be way better.

What's wrong with Davis? His shot blocking is unique! He didn't look happy cause he saw what was going on and couldn't believe it (lack of accountability).

That would be good and all but we really don't need a PF. I would love to have some Canadian content on this raptor squad though

keep dreaming about him staying here !

i would prefer a guy who wants to be here, than one who will be unpleased and begin to create problems.

I would certainly consider it. IMO, they project to be similar players on the defensive side of the ball. But with Thompson's ability to put the ball on the floor and finish with both hands, I think he has more upside offensively. Depends on what we're taking back, or dumping though.

as many have said in this post...Davis looked disinterested in being here in Toronto. I've felt the same way since he was drafted, he never took to the city like DeMar or Sonny or Amir... He also said flat out...NO to playing in London if there was a franchise...I know London vs. Toronto is completely different... but it's still out of the US.

I'd love me some Tristan Thompson...lots of effort on the defensive end...improving offense...too bad he's only wirey strong and not BULKY strong... But his legs are like TREE TRUNKS...

I wouldn't mind seeing him and Ed Davis command the middle for the raps for the future considering most teams dont' have a legitimate centre these days...it should be suffice...

Are you for real? Really?

Have you ever taken 1000 shots?

I have, and if you asked, I'd tell you I like to get up at least 1000 or so.

Why would you nit pick that specifically?

You're weird..

i'd hate to give up davis, but if the writing is on the wall and his value is seen high enough to be the centrepiece in a deal for a player like curry/batum/green/jennings, i'd go thru with it. i don't see thompson having the same upside as davis, but he'd be an ideal replacement.

LX is right, if your goal is to take a thousand shots, you should know that you took 1000 shots.

It would actually be cool if we drafted someone who lives in Ontario. He lives in Brampton so he can just go back home rather than buying a condo in DT if he chose to.

But then we have way too many Forwards. Davis, Ahmir, Evans and then Thompson if we draft him too
But if really had to choose, Ill rather trade Ahmir for a decent starting Center/PG
