Pops Mensa-Bonsu.

Really, I did. Was the first time I’d heard it in conversation with anyone remotely in charge of the team.

Now, before you all run out and grab up those Legend jerseys, consider this: At best – at the very, very best -- he’s the 16th man on a team that can only have 15. That means unless Bryan finds someway to make a one for none trade (maybe Ukic) there is no room for the obvious fan favourite.

(Of course, Bryan could trade Marcus Banks for no one but that would signal the apocalypse had arrived and it wouldn’t matter because there’d be no future).

So, yes, they know Pops is out there (and apparently his agent calls about a dozen times a week just to remind people in Toronto that (a) his client likes it here and (b) the other offers are flooding in). But it’s a long, long way from knowing he wants back and bringing him back.

I seen I trailer for that 2012 movie coming out in the fall. One scene shows Tsunami's engulfing cities, the Earth splitting apart and swallowing buildings and Marcus Banks being traded to the Blazers for a 2nd rounder and cash considerations...

It's nice having a guy the fans enjoy, and it's a bonus to have an energy guy coming off the bench. But this really isn't a big deal. With the acquisitions made this offseason I don't think there's any room for him on the roster anyway.

Hilarious.

If it's possible, I'd want to trade away Banks for 2 million dollars. And then we just pay the other 2 million on his contract and get him the hell out of here.

I would love to see Pops back, but it's kinda odd that his agent has been so persistent with Toronto. As Doug said, he'd probably be at the end of the bench if he came here, as it seems Reggie Evans will be ahead of him on the depth chart. Is there no team in the league where he'd got more of a chance to play?

Off the top of my head I'm thinking Washington, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, New Jersey, Utah (if Boozer is traded and they don't get a 4 in return), and even Chicago would be better fits for him.

Strictly speaking, the Raps at the moment have 13 players under contract. Considering that they'd need to add at least two more front court guys to Bargs, Bosh, Evans and O'Bryant (could be Rasho and Pops) or one front court and one wing player, there could be room for Pops on 15 men roster.

Interestingly, Hoopshype lists O'Bryant's contract as a team option for this coming season. Did they exercise it?

I would like to get Rasho and a wing player hopefully Delfino. I would love to pull of a 2 for one trade somehow and then try and get Pops back

I feel like we are pretty loaded with players, and some pretty good ones too, in the back court. The situation up front is looking pretty bleak once you get past Bosh and Bargs. Evans and POB... wow... I'd rather see two big guys added than worry about a guy like Delfino. Rasho and Pops would be fine by me

Man I really like Pops I hope we can keep him.

They had until July 1st to waive him and save some dough, but obviously didn't, so as far as I know his contract is guaranteed for the upcoming season.

Well I'm just hoping that if Banks doesn't get traded or moved that he contributes something this season other than 1 nice layup drive to the basket & then he gets injured again.

There is no need for Pops because Bargnani can be our "3rd string" PF. If Bosh or Evans gets hurt, Bargnani will be the one filling in the minutes.

I do think we need a 5th big better than O'Bryant, but he has to play C, not PF. That way he could cover if any of our bigs got injured (filling in for a C is obvious, filling in for a PF would happen when Bargnani moves over and opens up a 15mpg C spot)

Co-sign

Our front court is lacking depth so bringing in Rasho and Pops I feel is more important right now for tha raps than bringing bacc delfino.

If bargs moved over to PF, with our current lineup who would play C?

'trane 07-22-2009 02:58 PM

i wonder if we might see hedo at the 4 in a small-ball kind of lineup from time to time... he's big enough.

AznRayD 07-22-2009 03:23 PM
