Is There A Player Out There Now That Would Put Us Over The Top?

Doug answering questions from his mail bag and doesn't think there anyone out there right now that would help put us over the top. But possibly next year? Any possibilities? :confused2:

Hammond A, Toronto

A: Ill ignore the fact you incorrectly used the team cap when you meant tax (argh!) and let you know this.

If there was one guy they felt would absolutely put them over the top in not only the East but the entire league, Im sure Bryan would make a pitch to the board to creep into the tax and no one knows what reaction he would get. But, the simple fact is and this is indisputable among the people who make the big decisions in the front office that one guy does not exist right now. Maybe next summer he will. Now? They dont see him, and neither do I.

Joe Johnson, if Atl suck(more than likely) he may be shopped because of his big price tag.

Sadly I dont think we could get him.

They're speaking in the now, not 2010 Snooch. Keeping who we have now, acquiring JJ isn't feasible. Doug and the writer of the question were implying is there anyone out there "present" that can be an impact and difference maker to this current roster? :confused2:

I'm really starting to lament the fact that we couldn't land one of either Fernandez (Rudy) or Bellinelli from GS..... Fernandez in particular is looking GREAT now... damn Blazers.

I dont think there is really any player available now period, outside of Randolf, Darko and Tinsley. No moves of players with signifigance will be moved now until a couple months into season, once teams realize what is going on.

Ben Gordon is the only one still out there.

But yet again .... not feasible considering the money he's looking for. :(

Kirby 09-10-2008 12:21 PM

I wouldn't mind spending an 8M on him.. But a 12-14M lol.

That's such a tough question. If we're simply speaking about trade you'd have to discuss potential salaries coming out and that can open up a few possibilities. If we're speaking simply on a free agent level then I don't see anyone who could get us beyond. Ideally though, if I'm looking to trade, I'd look for a guy on a rookie level contract who isn't getting much playing time or has fallen out of favour and make a swap that way. For the hell of it I'd try to acquire Brendan Wright out of Golden State or Nick Young out of Washington. They wouldn't put us over the top but they could potentially be really good pieces to have in the future.

Kobe Bryant.

Lebron James.

I shudder to think of a backcourt of Gordon and Jose

Kirby 09-10-2008 01:10 PM

Why? o_O

Gurk 09-10-2008 01:12 PM

That would be a pretty small frontcourt. I think thats why

fixed ;)

edit: and a pretty terrible one defensively.

Gurk 09-10-2008 01:16 PM

LOL sorry

Kirby 09-10-2008 01:17 PM

Ah I see.

It would have to be someone more experienced than Fernandez or Bellinelli to make them go all the way right now.

They need a guy like Posey who just knows exactly how to impact any given game.

I would absolutly LOVE to have Bellinelli on this team, wanted him for a couple of years now.

I would love Rudy as well. But neither puts us over the top right now.
