Terrence Ross vs Andre Drummond

If you had to pick one of them today, who would it be?

Did anyone change their mind since the draft?

Their numbers thus far:

Andre Drummond: 18 mpg, 6.5 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.2 BPG, 0.8 SPG, 59FG/50FG3PT (2 attempts)

Terrence Ross: 16 mpg, 5.6 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.2 BPG, 0.6 SPG, 40FG/28FG3pt

Ross

As of right now no not really. Both players have showed flashes of brilliance and each had 1 really big game thus far. But other than that there hasnt been anything they did that would make me want to change over to Drummond and vice versa.

INSIDER 12-10-2012 01:35 AM

Drummond, so that Bargs would be even more expendable.

+1 Exactly....

But honestly, Ross hasn't been that bad. He just needs to condition himself more for the NBA and also show his stuff during practices so that Casey can play him more. If only he was a natural SF......ugh. It's so hard to find minutes behind DD and without getting shat on at the 3 by other small forwards.

Ross slightly reminds me of T-Mac, his handles needs to get much better though

Me too! He seems like he paces his game a lot. I never see him go too fast and outta control or too slow and soft.

I really like Ross's potential as a perimeter defender. Maybe a ceiling of Tony Allen w/ a jumper? One can hope, at least.

Drummond and Val, though, :giggity:

Terrence

Can't make a decision yet but I definitely like Ross. Great defence (especially for a rook) and hes got massive arms for 6'6. Have you seen his dunks?? Just wait until this guy fills out and works on his ball skills(I'm only saying this because you guys seem to doubt them so much). One of the best motors on the team, I think he can be an all-star.

That being said, he IS on the raps so i wouldn't be surprised if he gets traded before he comes into his own.

If we had the chance at draft time? Drummond. there were many SG's available for cheap but zero bigs. Look at how much Aaron Gray cost and then look at Pietrus. Look at Kwame and then look at Willie Green. Look at Dalembert, then look at Barbosa. Bigs cost more. I would have drafted Drummond and spent on a wing. Period.

I like Ross, think he's going to be decent if he can turn his stroke into an effective stroke, but this is an obvious answer.

MikeToronto 12-10-2012 11:09 AM

I honestly think that the decision to draft Ross over Drummond was a combination of factors:

1. Drummond's low motor reputation.
2. Our dire need for wing players and someone to push DD.
3. Us having 4 more than serviceable and youngish bigs in the rotation already.

Not using the list as an excuse, although it does look right now like we have not drafted the best talent available because of it.

MrClutch 12-10-2012 11:13 AM

I like the Ross pick at the moment. Once he gets adjusted to the NBA and he adds the needed strength, he will help the team out tremendously
I like Drummond and all but with Colangelo's love for Bargnani, I dont think he would get the minutes needed to develop properly

carp 12-10-2012 11:13 AM

There is a reason they have a saying that, talent being equal, you don't trade a big for a small.

All very valid points. Though seeing how Sac's guys pushed us around, we have a major need for a guy to do the same. Acy doesn't cut it.

Anyone who picks Ross over Drummond at this point is fooling themselves. Ross is a 21 year old rookie who has so far shown horrible ball-handling, streaky shooting and average defense. Drummond's potential is far above Ross and he'll be a big trade piece for years to come even if he doesn't become a starter in Detroit. Ross not at all.

We drafted Ross after awarding DD a huge contract that pretty much guarantees him a starting spot on the Raptors for years and Fields a huge contract as well to be our starting SF. Was Ross drafted to potentially be a starting SG for us? That makes little sense as DD has that locked in.

Unless Ross was drafted to play SG and DD move to SF... That would mean we gave Fields a huge contract to come off the bench. All in all, a cacophony of nonsense decisions by the Raptors.

As stated above, Drummond makes Bargnani more expendable and would see minutes regardless.

got me scratching my head too

well, I think everyone was hoping Bargs would come back this season at the level he was at last year prior to the injury.. and DD looked like a he took a step back in his development last season.. so you draft T.Ross to either replace DD at the 2 and place him at the three, but then again Fields is at the 3, and his contract is to high.. hmmm

but.. I am pretty sure the first option for raps was Harrison Barnes.. , you don't draft Drummond, when you have allot of bigs at the position already

we drafted Ross because of his D and shooting

I just don't see Drummond becoming that much more better.. Mcgee best case scenario
