Terrence Ross for Aaron afflalo trade being discussed

Quote:

If the Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Raptors decide to become buyers at the NBA trade deadline, reports Zach Lowe of Grantland, then they might target "one of the many proven veterans playing on rebuilding teams," including Orlando Magic swingman Arron Afflalo, the league's 11th-leading scorer at 21.9 points per game.

Adding color to this rumor: Lowe reports that Toronto is likely to use second-year swingman Terrence Ross as trade bait in such a scenario, and Orlando "values Ross highly, per several league sources." Further, Toronto general manager Masai Ujiri helmed the Denver Nuggets during Afflalo's days there.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported on December 23rd that Orlando had rebuffed all trade offers for Afflalo. The UCLA product has a team-friendly contract, a high talent level, and great character, all of which factors reduce the urgency of trading him.

As Steve Kyler of HOOPSWORLD reported on the 23rd, Orlando seems more open to trading either Jameer Nelson or Glen Davis.

Ross, who turns 23 on February 5th, is averaging nine points and 2.8 rebounds per game on 55.3 percent True Shooting in his second season out of Washington. Toronto made him the eighth overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft.

The NBA's trading deadline is set for February 20th at 3 PM Eastern.

I'm not the biggest fan of afflalo, he puts up points on a bad team and not much else. Pretty much derozan of Orlando

Afflalos shooting lights out this year. Hus shot charts completely green. He's proved he's a great defender. I would like to see us pry away Tobias Harrisin this deal, iI don't feel comfortable with a straight trade here. Maybe offload fields as well.. I really like Ross though..

Well Ross for Affalo would not work in terms of salaries.

However, what if Masai forces ORL to take on Fields contract in the deal? I checked on the trade machine and that deal works out. I would not mind at all to let go of Ross in that scenario.

So, you think we're not only getting Afflalo, but can somehow pry away Harris for what exactly? We have nothing that would interest them in dealing one of their cornerstones outside of Val, which we wouldn't do.

This trade only makes sense if we trade Derozan in a seperate deal. I dont think having two shooting guards making 18 million combined is a recipe for success, plus I dont think their games would mesh well since they play a lot alike, except Afflalo is a lot more efficient.

That's not a rumor. Zach Lowe mentioned Afflalo as a simple example in his column, and now some random fan blogger is trying to make it sound like a rumor.

Being discussed?? Doesn't sound like it

Nah, ain't gonna happen. I don't think MU will trade Ross before he sees what type of player he can be. 6th man, off the bench shooter and defender or a starter. If you go into a full rebuild, you wanna make sure you keep good pieces such as Ross and evaluate them. Dude is 23 and has performed well when given some playing time.

i'm not against. ross is still an enigma. compare to Afflalo whom has a superb season, and is finally healthy.
if MU want to make the playoffs and have a chance to go further than a sweep 2nd rd, i could see a trade like that :

TH + TR + 1st NYK 2016 (+ maybe a futur 1st)
for
Afflalo + O'Quinn

that's a terrible trade for the raps.

Tobias Harris is probably worth more than Ross himself, let alone the combination of Harris and Afflalo.

JoeyJoJo Shabbadu 01-01-2014 05:26 PM

The problem is who defends the SF spot if Ross goes. AA is a good defender but undersized to guard difficult big 3s in the east. Maybe do this and then trade DD for Deng+ picks/players and maybe we are onto something, but dont see how this works by itself.

It would be great to get Deng, but at the same time a huge risk simply because he is so injury-prone and he is only on a 1yr deal. He could essentially just walk at the end of the season. If you're lucky to get him to sign and extension for around 3-4 years there will be a least 1 guaranteed year were he will only play about 20-30 games because of multiple injuries. Overall though, I really like Deng and he could be a solid player for our team.

Harris is a better player than Ross, and I don't know their exact ages but they're pretty close. Harris is not going to get dealt for JJ Reddick again, that was just a result of bad management in Milwaukee and a stuffed frontcourt.

I would do that it would be a fun team to watch, at least it looks that way on paper.
