Terrence Ross Q&A

Q&A with Portland native and Toronto Raptors guard Terrence Ross | OregonLive.com

How's summer league going for you?

"It's been good, been productive. Things are getting better, I'm competing, having fun."

How different is it for you being in summer league this year compared to last year?

"You know what to expect; you know how everything goes so you kind of don't have to worry about much. All you really got to do is just focus on basketball."

Coach Casey said he's liked what he's seen out of you defensively. Is that your focus?

"Of course. That's always my main focus because if offense isn't falling for me, you always got defense to rely on so as long as you make that commitment on defense and try and turn some heads and let them know you want to defend, I think that's the biggest thing."

Coach also pointed out your decision making, bringing the ball up the court, and playing with the ball in your hands. Do you like having the ball in your hands?

"Everybody does. I think it's important for me to continue to make good decisions and prove to the coaches that I can bring the ball up and I can set someone up. It's just something I'm still working on. It's not going to be a dramatic change at the end of this summer league but as long as I'm showing improvement I get a little more of that coach's choice."

Coach said he's liked what he's seen from you off the ball this summer.

"I'm trying to just get better as an all-around player. I'm trying to do every little thing coach is mentioning, just take that in and try to get better at it."
What did you see out of Ben McLemore today?"

I knew he was a great shooter, so I just took that as a challenge to try and stop him and slow him down. I think I did my best.

"With the moves the team made last season and this offseason, do you think this could be a playoff-caliber team?"

I'm already looking forward to the season. We got a lot of talented players. We got a lot of grimy guys. We got a lot of tough guys who are going to go out there and play every night. It should be a fun season to watch

."Who's the best player you've seen out here at summer league?"I'm not saying this because he's on my team, but (Raptors center) Jonas Valanciunas. I feel like if he doesn't win player of the tournament, he got ripped off. He's shown a lot of improvement. He's doing it all out there. Just to see him become that dynamic threat, it just helps a lot.

"Where do you keep the slam dunk trophy?"

I keep it at my mom's house. She's trying to build this little shrine thing. As soon as I got it, she kind of took it from me so I just let her have it. And we have another one at the office."

Guess you get to have one, and the organization gets another?
