Question Teams In The Market For A PG

Eric Smith breaks down a list of which teams he figures are in the market for a PG. After you look at all the options, there really isn't that much to choose from.

*teams in bold are likely require a starting PG*

Obviously, keep in mind, the situation in any of the cities on any of these teams could change in a heartbeat with a trade, free agent signing, or draft selection. Take this for what it’s worth … as of May 6th …

And keep in mind … this list is based on Ford or Calderon going to another team and being a STARTER. Neither player is looking to move on … and be somebody’s understudy!

New jersey -Devin Harris is the future.
New York - Nate Robinson is not the long-term answer, nor is Jamal Crawford. And Stephon Marbury is a huge question mark.
Boston - Rajon Rondo has earned the right to keep his job. I was wrong about him!
Philadelphia -Unless Andre Miller’s going somewhere, Philly isn’t an option.

Cleveland - Delonte West is more of a SG than a PG.
Detroit - Chauncey Billups may be aging, but he’s still in charge.
Chicago - Kirk Hinrich. Chris Duhon. Why add another?
Milwaukee - Ford’s not going back there and I don’t see Jose in a Bucks uniform.
Indiana - Jamaal Tinsley may be on Larry Bird’s short list.

Washington - If Gilbert Arenas is back, he’ll likely be running the show.
Charlotte - Raymond Felton.
Atlanta - Mike Bibby and Acie Law. And Joe Johnson has a decent handle too.
Orlando - Jameer Nelson and Keyon Dooling (and Carlos Arroyo).
Miami - The Spanish community in Miami would love Calderon. Ford’s speed would be a good fit with Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion (assuming he’s back with the Heat). Hmmm. Toronto could use a guy like Udonis Haslem.

Houston - Rafer Alston has earned his right to run that team.
Dallas - Jason Kidd has only one year left on his deal. But Jason Terry could play the point when Kidd is done and he has a TON left on his contract. Ford is a Texas boy though.
San Antonio - Two words: Tony Parker.
New Orleans - Two more words: Chris Paul.
Memphis - Juan Carlos Navarro. Mike Conley. Javaris Crittenton.

Utah - Deron Williams.
Denver - Would there be room for a top PG with both Iverson and ‘Melo?
Minnesota - Telfair is (should be) a back-up and Randy Foye is not a point guard.
Seattle - I’m not convinced that the Sonics are sold on either Earl Watson or Luke Ridnour.
Portland - Steve Blake and Jarrett Jack may not be THE guy for an up-and-coming Blazers team. Portland could be in the market for an upgrade.

Phoenix - Steve Nash isn’t getting any younger but there’s not a fit here; not yet.
LA Lakers - Long-term Farmar is likely not a lead guard, but look at where LA has gotten this year with him and veteran, Derek Fisher.
LA Clippers - They can’t rely on Shaun Livingston. LA needs help.
Golden State - With Baron Davis and Monta Ellis (despite their contract situations) there doesn’t seem to be a fit here.
Sacramento - I don’t see the Kings giving up on Beno Udrih.

LAC, POR, SAC, MIN, DAL, MIA, ORL, ATL, WAS, IND, CLE NY

is the list of teams that need a pg and could definately take a look at TJ,.

LAC- Maggette
POR- Pryzbilla, Outlaw
SAC- Artest or Garcia+1st
MIN- Uhhh?? I dont see any kind of deal thatd be fair.
DAL- Howard
MIA- Wright, Haslem
ORL- No possible deal here.
ATL- Marvin
WAS- Cant think of a deal here either.
IND- Jeff Foster
CLE- Not much here either...Gibson+Joe Smith+1st?
NY- Not much there.
PHI- Dalembert+Young

Combo deals obviously with not just TJ since a lot of them wouldnt be fair with only TJ going the other way, but thats what I see right now.

PS Eric, MEM's backup is Lowry not Javaris Scrubinton and SG Juan Carlos shoot too much

Other than the Ford for Howard deal, this deal with Miami sounds pretty good:
MIA- Wright, Haslem for TJ

Would that be a fair deal or could we get more? I think TJ with Wade and Marion would make Miami pretty solid

I like the Sacramento deal. Not sure if the Kings would go for it though

I think people are waaaay over-estimating what kind of return BC can get for TJ.

I'm expecting something like an expiring contract and a nice pick or two.

remember he is injury prone, thats the only thing that keeps us from getting something really good for him.

What if we just did TJ for Young and Evans? Dalembert is impossible, his value is as high as Ford's and we're not bringing in a center until another year of Bargnani anyways. I'd definitley pull the trigger on Young and Evans.

Screw Magette.

Get Brand, or the big ugly kid.

How do you go one week and forget how BADLY this team needs an inside defender.

Our outside guys aren't as bad as you think.

We need a stopper.

Honestly, I may be more interested in seeing Bargnani and TJ for brand, and then Rasho and a couple expiring contract for a decent straight up penetrating scorer.

Exactly Wu .... we're definitely not going to get someone substantial in return for T.J. unless the suitor is absolutely desperate. Which means in order to fill bigger voids on this team, signing & trading Calderon might find us the bigger catch.

Without Yao the rockets have done pretty ok. But rafer alston isn't a true starting PG. We require one and we could give up anyone outside of Yao and Tracy. Tracy is injured a lot but he is still a top 5 player with an insane knack for finding the right teammate and looking over the defense, however we can't have him doing the job for the PG and being a SG. Battier is easily the best 1 on 1 defender in the NBA, a lot better than bowen in the fact he always guards the opponents best player and hold kobe to 35% when playing against us. We might be able to deal him, and maybe Scola who has had a TERRIFIC rookie season. But i would say your problem is a good 4 and 2. One thing i would hate for is tracy being on the RAPS. He makes guys like Mutumbo and Chuck Hayes score i could only imagine what he would do with Bosh.
