guys, i hope to share your optimism. your hope. that someday, we can turn this damn shit around and that we're going to get the respect we deserve. from here, i think time is going to have to be our friend. and patience too. hopefully management will start to feel tired of losing just as much as we spectators do....

LOL. No. A third or fourth pick is not going to turn a 22-win team into a playoff team. I'd predict about 28 to 31 wins next season. The following season we MAY eek into the playoffs. But even that is not something I would bet on. I think 13-14 is likely the next time we make the playoffs.

Ahh bullshit. If not for the insane amount of injuries this season we probably win 28-30 games. Now add to that another high pick, capspace (trade(s) & FA) and a weak 7 through 15 in the East and it's not that inconceivable that we could at the very least make things interesting next season.

Don't forget it's based on who we draft and what is done with our capspace through FA and trade. Ask me again in August.

looking at the track record of who we're able to get on the FA market, nobody wants to come here so that's already a wash there
so it'll be based on the draft pick, trades, and the development of our players
it'll be very heavy on the development of our players, so i say no for next season, even with development we'll only improve to possibly right below a playoff team

Unless we hit the lottery and get the #1 pick, I don't think it matters who we draft. I #3-4 pick isn't going to turn us into a playoff team. These are the lean years my friend.

Alone, certainly not, even the #1 pick alone won't do it but with a couple good moves they might make it interesting in the shitty eastern conference. I never said they would make the playoffs.

its easy to make the playoffs. If a scrub team like the pacers can make it we should be able to pulverize them next season. If Ed and Amir get stronger and more bulky, Bargnani miraculously starts playing good defence, demar begins to hit three's and become a 20ppg scorer, and we bring in a defensive Vet in the paint and a few more pieces here and there and get a good draft pick. Then why the hell not? you guys r underestimating this team and BC too. That man can make shit happen. I have high hopes for this off season

I agree with jeff. Think about what if all our players didn't suffer injuries and was like DD who played all 82 games? (Props to DD, he's the 4th Raptor to play all games in a season) When you factor in that, you get better team practices, more defined roles on a team, and less last minute change ups and everything. This year we could have challenged for the 8th spot, I can't see why we can't challenge for it next season if the team is healthy. Now getting passed the 1st round, thats a different story.

That has never happened for any team, and will never happen. You're bringing up an impossible fantasy scenario. We lost lots of man games to injury this season and will again next season. Injuries are part of the NBA. Every team loses lots of games to injury. "If they all played 82 games" is irrelevant.

Next season no. However, the season after that I'd say 50-50 and that's only if everything turns out the way we are hoping it to turn out.

I think that adding a guy like Chandler and impact rookie can make this team a playoff team, especialy on the east... but why would you wanna be a playoff team anways at this point? The goal is to go all the way, not to be mediocre, and 8th seed is just that. If u go all out and cut throath with salary u are looking at 5-6 years atleast with entering playoffs and doing nothing, it is just silly... + next year you are looking at deep draft and a posible powerhouse Austin Rivers...
Remember the spurs a year before Duncan, they were actually blessed with Robinsons injury, they were a 20 instead of 60+ victory team and hit the jack pot. Small markets (in US players eyes) win by draft and luck, i dont see any other way for Tornonto cept that.

Yes it won't happen for every team because there is the factor of getting injured. But you can't deny if this team had less injuries or even no injuries that we would have done a little bit better this year. I'm not saying that if the team was all healthy we would have made the playoffs. That's uncertain, we could have or just lost the way we were who knows. And playing all 82 games is not irrelevant in my opinion. Imagine Ed and Amir played all games, including training camp, and weren't injured. We wouldn't be thin in the paint or have to play 3rd string bigs for our starters or bench for some games. I could go on, but the point is that maybe not having all these injuries could have helped us.

That being said, injuries have helped with the development of players this year. Bayless, DD, Davis, and JJ. With Bargs out, DD was more of the focus in scoring. With Amir and Reggie out sometimes, Ed had more playing time. With Jose down, Bayless developed. And with Kleiza and Weems out (though Weems isn't a 3) JJ took over and got minutes.
