tanking is hard ....

7 straight losses and there are still 5 teams that are worse than us ...

on the bright side, we're still just one game behind boston in the win column. I bet nobody predicted we'd be this close to them after 1/4th of the season :)

forme123 01-21-2012 12:23 AM

lol i was just discussing this with someone, I mean whats the point of tanking if other teams are better at it than u, it seems we cant win nor lost properly....well as long as bargs and bayless stay injured, the standings will sort themselves out and we will be at the bottom in no time

DVS 01-21-2012 12:27 AM

tanking is difficult to do and watch. Just hope fans stick around through this time. I think they will its not like the raptors had much success anyways

LX 01-21-2012 07:28 AM

I'm not sure where the idea that there are five teams below us comes from? Ammo said the same thing. I only see four. And the very bottom is very close. I think at the end, only Detroit and Washington will be worse, maybe Charlotte as well. That gives us a good number of ping pong balls.

Tanking may be difficult, but coaching the Raptors seems even tougher.

It's painful to watch, but probably only really hurts if you thought they were going to be a .500 team.

And what are some people doing mad now that they suck? They came in sucking, they were meant to suck and as projected, with injuries, they are suckging even harder. And just wait until talented teams really start fighting for playoff spots.

They could really use some Primo pasta and sauce right now.

And with the 5th pick (for another couple days) in the 2012 NBA draft, the Toronto Raptors select...

LX 01-21-2012 10:41 AM

There's some fairly soft schedules in the next little while for a couple teams below us. And it is possible that even the wiz and pistons hit a little bit of a hot streak. We've already given the Wizards one of their wins. It's that sort of thing that is going to be needed. I think they are doing a fine job.

forme123 01-21-2012 02:16 PM

only thing i dont like about tanking is the unpredictability of where the lottery balls land, it might not even matter how shitty we are by the end, the fact is we might get fucked over....

look at last draft, didnt cleveland win with clippers pick, and they were like what 11-12th worst in league? or even that horrific celtics year in 06-07 which only landed them 5th overall pick. of course they used that to get ray ray and then assembled the big three but the point is its a lot to bank on..everything must go right, and even if u get 1st overall pick, who's to say the guy we get will be a game changer? nobody knows for sure...

we're in a tough situation because we have no choice to tank at this point. best route to improve is free agency but no players will want to come to toronto until we have a good team. with the lack of trade pieces we have, we prob wont be able to get a game-changer type player in return unless BC pulls some magic. and by doing that, we would prob be forced the thin out our depth even more (which is already disgustingly thin). therefore, only way we can drastically improve is through draft..

just thinking about this makes me cringe. lets just say it could be a long time before we are competitive again :sigh:

Deez 01-21-2012 03:48 PM

Free agency is always an issue as it relates to getting all-star stud tye players to sign. But if you are one of the trully crap teams, like last year, you can still add to your team. You can only fall so far in the draft.

That's why we are better off tanking hard. If Colangelo would have shot for 8th place this year, we likely would not have money to spend, nor even the prospect of a high pick.

Bottom line, even if they fell in the draft, spending cap money properly, using your assets, adding JV and adding someone like Kidd-Gilchrist (who isn't even expected to go that high) definitely doesn't make your team worse. I also think there could be a decent pick added in 2013 because young teams don't tend to torch the league right away.

I'm looking forward to top 5 pick.

We'll be at the bottom in no time, the teams below us have had some rather tough stretches in their schedules. Our next handful of games on the road are definitely un-winnable even if Bargs and Bayless are back. My only hope is that JV comes into the league next year semi-prepared because we will need it, we're not shooting for the bottom next year. Hopefully JV's game isn't really raw and we come up with a good pick after tanking this year, or we're in deep doo doo butter.

A third straight year at the bottom of the pile would sting....and I don't know if any of us could stand that.....but that's what an OKC is made of.

Detroit won! So they are only 1/2 game behind.

But you usually get something for an asset, (unless you have Babcock). Unlike us, where the cupboard is bare from trying to stay on the 6th to 10th treadmill. And I can't assume OKC has the same amount of money this market has.

They have assets, hope and talent. We have Primo pasta and a hopefull future.

You're saying Andrea couldn't garner a fairly decent pick?

I can't actually say I want him gone now, just not featured as the guy to carry you. And if he is all we have, then yes, the cupboard's pretty bare.

As it was for OKC when they traded Ray. Are you following the script or not?
