Basically, MU will let this team play things out and see what we can do in the playoffs (if we get there) and then retool in the summer when we still have flexibility and our young players have some playoff experience (hopefully). Let's see how this team handles the pressure of the playoffs, giving MU even more of an idea of what kind of team and HC we have.

I hope Lowry isn't just like this because of this being a contract year.

Yea prior to him joining the Raps I didn't follow him that much. Maybe not with him as the actor but I've seen that movie too many times where a team over pays a player based on how he played in a contract year. Its impossible to predict how he'll live up to his next contract but he fits in with the current team. Also based on what's available or going to be available,he's the best option. I still think they should draft a PG to groom though because the Raps haven't drafted a PG in the first round since Stoudemire, which is ridiculous.

You are probably right. I'm hoping he will take less, but we will see. As long as he resigns for a fair price I'll be happy.

What other PG's are going to be unrestricted this offseason? If there isn't anyone else interesting available his price could go up significantly.

How many teams are in dire need of a starting PG and also have money to spend on one? My guess is that MU has looked at the landscape for the PG market this summer and realized he has a good chance at re-signing him at his price.

This. I'd hate for him to get 4 years/$35-42 million only to slack off on his conditioning and play.

Mehh, what I'm seeing now is how he played for most of his time in Houston. He seems more mature though. His per 36 numbers this season are on par with his last couple seasons in Houston.

Glad to know if this team continues to play well that it won't be blown up.

If we had cap room, would you not try to sign an upgrade? Jennings is clearly worse than Lowry. You can't really say that they wouldn't try to sign Lowry because of him.

Good news though!

the dude's compete level/spirit is off the charts. has always been. and i doubt it'll change.

he'll always be motivated.

only thing that has slowed him down was stuff out of his control. injuries.

um, pretty sure all the starters surrounding him now were here last season as well. Bargnani was injured for most of the season and gay was only here for the last two months, so there's only so much blame you can attach to those two being removed from the roster.

not to mention that he came into training camp overweight. I love lowry the most on our roster, but there's no question there will be risks in signing him, both attitude and injury. Let's remember that attitude issues don 't pop out when things are good, don't remember too many incidents with JR Smith last season for example.

that being said, we don't really have a choice, unless we get a top 5 pick, we can't get anybody close to lowry in value, so we'll have to roll the dice and hope for the best.

Although I still worry about a team like DET who might be able to offer more money I think we're in the lead at this point.

*fingers crossed*

Apologies to Team Tank.
2 negs?? OY - I agree with everything and also the possibility that a team like Detroit with money could over pay and steal him. Always a worry.

Just my opinion, but I think Orlando will be a bigger threat to sign Lowry if they don't draft Smart or Exum.

I really think Masai has had a big hand in helping him mature. His biggest problem has been feeling established and secure on a team. I would guess that Masai was very clear and honest with him before putting him on the trade block, and he's been able to put everything in perspective and gain a sense of having a good measure of control over his future here.
