Default to tank or not to tank...

there has recently been many arguments on whether to tank this season or not. some say a winning culture is better than a talented rook and others say the opposite. if we look at the current situation, the Raptors are 22nd in the league which means they would get the eighth pick. this sounds not very convincing talent wise with the lockout looming and all but we are only 2.5 games ahead of getting the third pick. with the way the east is shaping up we are only 2 games away from that eighth spot. so we could easily be high lottery or playoffs. do you think we should make a trade at the deadline to get better or tank further to get the third pick? i believe the pick would help us immensly in the future with the possibility of getting a guy like kyrie irving. thoughts?
discuss away/ give your opinion and a REASON to back it up

If this team is healthy it's likely close to a 30 win team. And that probably won't get us a top 3 pick without some luck. Not to mention if BC makes a move or two in the next few months. If we can be certain to get a top 3 pick then i'd say i don't care if we tank, but i have a bad feeling about our luck draft night.

I say if it is a smart, future oriented move, great. But not some 8th place bandaid. Maybe they can catch some desperate dumbass GM like Michael Jordan or Joe Dumars who need to find a way to win 38 games to save face? Those kinds of GMs might make foolish moves that allow you to benfit as you build.

Yah with our luck we get the number one pick but then the draft is cancelled because of the strike, then Stern says there has to be another lottery when nbapa ends the strike & we end up with the 6th pick instead of 1st

It's easy do you want the 11th 12th pick in the draft or 1-5th? I'd take the latter.

How is this a 30 win team? So far any wins have come off of bad teams or tired teams. We manufacture points off of running and early offense. As the season wears on that is only going to get more difficult. Teams have already started to figure out that once you get back in transition, and pack the paint, there is not any kind of second option - just any one of 5 guys driving into traffic or chucking out of rhythm. That's not going to bring greater success.

Why would you teach young players trying to find their way in this world to give up.
Have you not watched even one rocky movie in your lives.

I tell YOu, i dont know how old you guys are. I am 33. But i was never taught to give up. Its a cowardly thing to do. Everyone these days wants everything now, and faster, and more of it. Without working hard for it. Its pathetic to attempt greatness by doing it this way.
How can you respect a team that does this.

You are 33 and you don't understand the concept of a tactical retreat?

Tactical Retreat. I never read about that in Sun TZu's Art of War.

Besides it isnt tactical when you are not gaurenteed a player who is gonna make it in the NBA.
If there were some sort of agurentee we would be getting a star. Then I can see the point. But there is no noticable star this coming draft. Maybe some great players, but they could be drafted anywhere in the first 15 drafted.
