you must be new around here stranger

Kidding aside, for the life of me I can't understand this line of reasoning. How would winning a game by 2 points vs losing it by 4 makes a team better? Any player who is psychologically scarred by losing a few games on a young team will never be any good anyway. And it's not like we're asking players to tank or lose on purpose. All we want is for the leadership to create conditions for losing ... The goal of the game is to win a title, not to win every game. Any GM who opposes tanking on any basis should be fired immediately for incompetency.

Fact is, even with this summer's pick, we're most likely not good enough. In an ideal world, we'd get another top 6-7 pick next summer as well. Unfortunately, with both the GM and the coach in final years, they will be looking to win sooner. So unless we get really lucky with JV or this summer's pick, we won't have enough assets accumulated, which is too bad.

why is that exactly?

And when you say "better", who do you mean exactly, for the franchise, for the players, for the fans? Most players on this team are not going to be here next year, so I could care less what's good for them. The core of our team is really AB (not playing much), JV, next summer's pick and next big FA signing, all three not here yet. So that leaves Demar and Ed. Ed is barely doing anything right now, he has bigger things to worry about than losing a few extra games.

If you think that winning 32-33 games and barely making the playoffs only to be blown away in 4 games by Chicago is going to make us more attractive for FAs, that's just a pipe dream.

As for the fans, who cares about them either. Once the team starts winning big, we'll have more fans than we can handle, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Anything above a tenth pick is a failure of a season and I will be asking for a mulligan.

Below..let's ssay 6th should be good enough.

PS- I could'nt find the tank tracker thread…but a very good night for the raps. NJ win, SAC win. Cleveland win. Pistons win and so did the Bucks.

You don't have Drummond or Robinson top 5?

The Knicks lost again. So the Raps are 4.5 games out of the playoffs. they are in with a pack, but this is still real. I'd like to urge everyone not to kidnap Bargnani tonight.

In other news, Kobe's auditioning for the next Batman.

Let's not lose hope tank fans ... it will take Bargs and the rest of the team time to adjust. We also have a few players playing quite well (JJ, Jose, and even DD) ... just a notch down on their playing level will most likely enable us to maintain current winning percentage ~ .333.

Yeah for about 10 seconds, then you'll realize we're putting nearly the same team on the floor next year as this year and think to yourself: was it really worth it?

I'm gonna go Tanya Harding on Andrea's leg when he gets close. This team desperately needs a top 4 pick.

We'd have to get very lucky even without Bargnani to get a top 4 pick imo.

If we're gonna go for that 8th seed, we might as well trade our pick for some value, while it still looks like we'll get top 5 in the lottery.

This is Brian Colangelo, not Brian Burke.

Tank is leaking? i mean sure we've pulled together a few wins here and there, but if u look now compared to a couple weeks ago, i think we've actualy fallen in the standings. Teams like Detroit and New jersey have surpassed us, and i believe we sit tied for fourth last in the league right now, giving us a good chance to get that high draft pick still

the tank is as strong as its ever been !!

You'd probably like that cause you know the goal is to accumulate as many lottery picks as possible and never winning.

To get top 5 pick we would have to lose 90% of the games from now on. If we do that, I dont consider what we have "already good looking young core".

Also some one said getting to playoffs would set us back 1-2 years? Do you realy think that top-5 pick vs say 15th pick in the draft really is 1-2 year difference? Seriously. Unless you get a guy like LeBron, Durant, or Howard from draft, no one players has that big impact, and from what I've understood there is no such guy in this draft. And even to get those guys teams have had to win the lottery so even losing isnt a guarantee to get a stud.

There is no way we get in to playoffs this year (too far behind already), but if there was a chance, I would welcome it. And I prefer the young core we have to learn to win and to know how to play hard rather than having a pick a few spots earlier. If the team wins, it also raises trade value of everyone on the team.
