If we are 5th, there is indeed roughly a 45% chance of dropping, and about a 9% chance we drop lower than 6th.

therefore what ever happens we will be picking eather 1-3 or 5-8?

Or, pur another way, they have an 80% chance of not getting the 1st pick. Such is draft lottery night. Even Charlotte has a 75% chance of not getting #1.

The main thing is not to end up in the Raps position where you can drop right out of the high impact player spots.
