When I look at Lin and the 4 years of college and CBA and NBA I like the potential and the idea of gambling on his peaking on a contract. It is a risk for sure and many would take it - I would. However like I said before I would take Dragic or Lowry first as they are known quantities - even Nash as a stop gap. Of course thats IF the raps were actually looking for a pg as a first priority and I don't believe that's the case. The team needs a wing more than anything and not a rookie one. I would like to see some experience there, like AI, Gay or Evans. With JC and Bayless we have time for a pg.

yeah but question is, when it is time to find a pg, will there be some available? there are a lot of point guards to go after this summer and this is not always the case. why not sign one now, have caldy as a back up, or use caldy in a trade for a sf? I'm satisfied with klieza and JJ at sf, if anything we need a backup shooting guard, which I'm sure we can get by dealing one of the bigs.

I like Drajic but,

The Rockets didn't play as well with him starting, could that mean something who knows?

Lowry would be an instant improvement at our pg spot though & if it is true that he wants to go somewhere else then Im fine with BC looking to make a move on him...
Plus he still has 2 years left on his contract at $5,750,000 & $6,210,000

Would you do an Ed Davis + Jose Calderon for Portland's pick (currently the 11th overall pick). Ed can be an asset used later. Jose just has to feed the ball to Batum, Matthews, LA, etc. Raps save money and get a decent pick. I'd also add our 2 2nd rounders if need be.

Also, Lowry. Dragic - too expensive. Nash - isn't a young 34 year old anymore. Lin - also - DC's offense is a lot different than D'antoni's. Jose -no.

i'm keeping my fingers crossed for lowry. he's not going to give you the playmaking ability dragic, Calderon or nash are going to give you, but it's the toughness, defence and rebounding that we need.

another thingy

calderon was good this year. we shouldn't be heart broken if he's back for another season playing at the level he did this past season. i think i'd be more pissed if we amnestied him.

Jose is probably the best backup PG in the league. I would not want to use the amnesty on him. I disagree with the principle of the amnesty.

Amnestying Calderon better be for a damn good reason, like getting a really good player because we amnestied him like NY did with Billups/Chandler, because we can get good value for him at the deadline at the latest with him being expiring next year.

Anyways:

1. Deron, 2. Lowry, 3. Nash.

Lowry is a lot better than most people think. He looked like a top tier PG until he got injured. Hes improved every year hes been in the league, and now he can essentially do anything as a PG besides really take over with 1 on 1 ability/off the dribble creativity. Hes a very good halfcourt and transition PG, can run pick and rolls to get his own or others shots, and his 3 point shooting has been very nice the last 2 years. He'd be an absolutely fantastic pickup this offseason.

he's the best backup PG probably because he is a satisfactory starting PG, lol

I wouldn't amnesty him either, just get 1 of the big names here so we can start building towards something

+1 And if we're coming out of the tank now, why look for first to sign a PG who could have you looking in a couple of years for your PG of the future again? If you can do it, I say pick up your PG for now and into the future.

I'd rather start Bayless.

Jennings would be a good pickup for the raps but only after BC has attempted the better options first...he is better than Bayless IMO

It could be due to, at that point, they didn't have the great PG combo they had. You were never taking a risk when swapping Lowry with Dragic. They lost some depth with Lowry out.

How so, they both are score first. Both have similar turnover rates. Jennings has a horrible FG% by the way. If you don't like Bayless, then you definitely won't like Jennings.

i agree, jennings is definitely an upgrade but he isn't really a good enough of an upgrade, we need someone better than him, but if those options are taken away then he is worth being signed, he is obviously better than bayless
he has more size, more control on his drives and more passing abilities, they are equal when it comes to being shoot 1st PGs

IF you changed the title with "including salary cap considerations" you wouldn't have so many responses for nash (impossible he says yes to coming too) and Jeremy Lin.

All the focus is on D and many people still want a player who lets the opposing PGs their best scoring games. Get over Lin!
Would people get off Calderon's back if he earned half of his salary? I personally don't care how much BC pays out, we wouldn't get anyone with that extra money anyway.
I'd like us to have an explosive monster like Westbrook, but if not, a smart unselfish PG is fine.

Honestly if we go back into threads from last year we can probably find the exact same question "when it is time to find a pg?". Every year there will be changes for sure and opportunities. As much as I like Kleiza and JJ they just don't provide what the Raps need from that position. That's not a knock on those 2 other than they are fringe starters at best and better suited for a back-up roll. We need a serious threat there to open everything else up IMO. I also agree with Jeffb in the fact that if the Raps can upgrade the sg they should. Not to say I wouldn't mind Lowry or goran or Lin but it's not as severe a need. Again, it's all speculation till after the lottery. Once there is a determination there that will most likely dictate the rest.

I'm of the same opinion about Nash plus he is not what the team needs at this point. You don't blow cap on a guy that is at the end of his career when SF is the #1 priority IMO.
