T.J looks good.

Which means only one thing.

The team will have to make a decision.

They are both saying the right things...but I don't buy it for a second.

Lets consider them equally good on the court. From a team standpoint what is the right thing to do.

Belsius 02-25-2008 12:31 PM

We have a little of a problem with the fact that our best four players play 2 positions. (bargs is much better with rasho next to him as a C IMO)

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 02-25-2008 12:35 PM

BC needs to find out if each is REALLY okay with playing 24 minutes a game average going forward or trade one. Once you get Jose signed to a real deal, he'll have a lot of trade value... TJ i'm not sure really. Talent wise you can't go too far wrong keeping either one over the other my own feelings aside.

As I brought up in my Brian's legacy thread..this will be his Vince Carter moment... it'll be interesting to see what he does with it.

Dr. J. Naismith 02-25-2008 12:38 PM

Yeah, I've been kind of surprised by Ford's reaction lately when he said that he likes going with the combo of him and Jose. Maybe Ford just assumes that he's back starting for this team next season and Jose's back to his old role. Bias aside, this franchise would simply be stupid to make Calderon a back-up again.

Anyhow, from a financial standpoint there's no way we invest so much money for 2 players that play the exact same position. Especially if BC wants to go out and spend some money on a starting SF. So the best that we can hope for is for Ford to stay injury-free for the remainder of the season and to really step it up over these next couple months. If he can, then it should be easy-peesy moving him this summer. Or at least I hope we can. :crying:

Acie 02-25-2008 12:39 PM

Uh, after one good game? The guy is still at any given moment one bump away from missing two months and he knows this which is why he's onboard with having Calderon there too.

Benzo 02-25-2008 12:41 PM

Everyone is going to say the right things, right now, so I put zero stock in it.

Team A: Offers Jose 8 mill in the offseason

Raptors: Have to match...thats about 16 million in one position.

Makes no sense.

Superjudge 02-25-2008 12:43 PM

I would bet the Farm BC is looking to Dump Tj.

Or what about if a team offers Jose more than 8 million per season? Are you going to pay your back-up in Jose more than your starter in Ford? I don't think so. And the thought of Ford being a back-up for 3 more years isn't going to sit well with T.J.. :(

So, anyone that realistically thinks this can work for another 2 to 3 years is seriously kidding themselves. :cwm34:

Forderon is dead....All I know is if he decides to move Jose...which may accually bring us more in return, he better be damn sure TJ stays healthy.

Belsius 02-25-2008 01:01 PM

What team is going to risk it and make Tj their PG of the future?

alseaf 02-25-2008 01:14 PM

Why the fuck not spend 16 mill on one position...look around man. The superstars in the league make around 14 mill a season, and the back up role to that superstar, lets say he makes 2 or more mills...that makes the team with the superstar investing 16 mill in one position. Its not that uncommon. In my eyes, when you combine both of they're contributions, we have a 'superstar' tandem at the PG spot. On another note... you'd be thinking irrationally, if u think for a sec that if we had to move one of them, it would be Jose. TJ is too injury prone and if hes our only 'reliable' PG if Jose is traded, and he goes down for an extended period of time, our team becomes dysfunctional.

Benzo 02-25-2008 01:17 PM

I agree...16 Mil is fine for a superstar and his back up....and we are paying that for Bosh and his...

The problem you will get into is When you are spending 8 million on ond 8.5 million on the other and they are only playing 24 mins each....at least with Bosh's paycheck you can get 38 out of him...it makes no sense.

All good points alseaf, but then our hands our tied financially on not having the ability to go out and get some immediate help where we mostly need it at the SG/SF positions. I'd rather spend that 8 to 9 million on a different position such as those one instead of the same one at the point. :)

I love Moon and Parker, but truthfully Moon is a life time bench player and Parker's gonna be 34 or 35 years old next season and we're already noticing that he's lost a step. So, call me crazy but whatever money we do have to spend this summer it better be on any other position but the point. (That's assuming neither Jose or Ford are here next season)

alseaf 02-25-2008 01:33 PM

ok, i see what you're saying. In all likelihood, TJ will be shopped this summer, in the hopes that a desperate team in need of a guard will give up a good player in return. Jose is more than adequate as out starting PG and we can bring in Slokar next season and mold him into a decent PG (hopefully). It seems to me like its in TJ's best interest to say things like: 'I'm comfortable with playing along Jose' because if he is NOT comfortable, the management will surely look to deal him for the reasons you guys are giving. With that in mind, what do u think, AS OF RIGHT NOW, we would get for TJ.

Yea lol, too many damn euro names for me 2 remember. What's the skinny on him btw?

Ball Don't Lie 02-25-2008 01:43 PM

One of our PGs wont be here next year, thats what it comes down to. It's not gonna work where both guys are getting like 26 mpg and one is coming off the bench when both should be playing 35mpg. Both wont accept the backup 20mpg role. We need to trade one for the sf we need, and its looking more and more like Jose will catch the big fish, not TJ due to his latest injury.

Belsius 02-25-2008 02:49 PM

we will have Tj as our starter? and next time when he gets injured what? TO back to the middle pack. BC cannot be so stupid to risk it. Only move I see happening is Tj being dealt cheap enough that another team will want to risk.

Obviously if he chooses to go with TJ and trade Jose, he would get the best available backup situation in place...whether that's Ukic or someone else. Don't assume trading TJ means Delfino/Martin will be the backup... Delfino might be the third option and we know Martin is done after this year, but there would be someone else in that 2nd slot.

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 02-25-2008 02:59 PM

And while i'm willing to concede that TJ has a risk to getting seriously injured more than most players serious injury is a risk every team manages... just look at the Clippers with Livingston and Brand. Garbajosa wasn't considered an injury risk more than anyone but he's gone. Successful teams are the ones that have the luck(i.e. don't get injured) and have the depth to survive stretches of bad luck. We've not had much of the first, but BC has shown he's all about the second so i'm not too worried with whatever direction he chooses to go in.
