Default T.J.: “I guess we will see, but I like Toronto.”

That was a quote between Eric Smith and Ford regarding all the recent trade talk. As much as many of us are looking forward to his departure, from a personal standpoint it has to be upsetting and frustrated for T.J.. I kind of feel bad for him, but deep down realize its probably best for both parties.

Whether or not these rumours are legit is anybody’s guess. But it’s probably safe to assume that “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”. If Ford’s name keeps coming up in rumours, is it not safe to assume that Toronto is trying to deal him?

Well, I had a chance to talk to Ford on Monday.

We chatted via back-and-forth text messages for about 10-15 minutes. I had originally contacted him to see if he’d come on the air with me or at least give me a quote or two for this ‘ol blog. But TJ wanted to keep things off the record.

So I’ve got to respect his wishes. I can’t say much at all about what we chatted about. However, I don’t think Ford would mind me sharing this one line that he gave in response to all of the trade talk:

“I guess we will see, but I like Toronto.”

I get the feeling that Ford knows in his heart of hearts that something is likely going to happen but he wants to remain a Raptor. He said that almost two months ago when the players were cleaning out their lockers after the first-round loss to the Magic. Ford had nothing but good things to say about T.O. and his future here. But the only comment that a lot of folks remember - like it or not - was when Ford stated that he wanted to be in Toronto but didn’t see himself coming off the bench (i.e. - backing up Jose Calderon) for 82 games.

Calderon later made a similar comment to the Spanish media overseas.

Ford is an ass that knows the right things to say at the right time.

Lots of players do their talking on the court and I heard Me-J loud and clear last season.

I like Tj.

I think he's a good guy, and I think he isa courageous guy.

Period.

I like Jose's style better for a team trying to establish stablity after years of instability.

Thats it.

Too much hate here for a kid that left in on the court for the most part, and was emotionally drained and made a few mistakes.

Give him a break.

I heard him on the court as well. The better than 3:1 assist to turnover ratio spoke pretty clearly to me. The work he did to come back spoke pretty clearly to me. His competitive spirit spoke pretty clearly to me. Unfortunately his bed was not at all entirely of his own making, and had he not been injured - who knows? He was playing unbelievably well at the time. Did he handle everything perfectly? No - but I don't blame him all that much either.

Someone wiser than me once said "It's not the things you do but how you make others feel that you will be remembered for"

Me-J made everyone feel like unimportant turds. It was obvious that he thought he was the best player on the team and everyone should get in line behind him.

Bye bye headcase.

I think people treated TJ unfair. To hate on him for wanting to be a starter is pretty sad when one considers he re-signed with the club under the impression he was the undisputed starter. It was only a year ago that he finished in the top five in the league in assists, was voted by his peers as the fastest man in the league and in PG player rankings an undisputed top ten PG. He's only 24 and his skills obviously haven't diminished. With all that said does anyone in here honestly think that anyone in the league on his level, besides Jose "I'm on a contract year so I won't say the exact same thing TJ got ass raped for by the media and fans during the season" Calderon, wouldn't be upset about losing his role because he got hurt?

I like TJ, he's an amazing talent and I'm sure where ever he lands he will make an immediate impact. He has a higher ceiling than Jose and because of this I truly hope Colangelo can land the club a starter who will make the kind of impact which could help propel them deep into the playoffs next season.

As for the head case comment. How is TJ a head case. Give me the run down on what he did to deserve that label because I fail to see how he's a head case. He's not in trouble with the law, was never in trouble with his coach and he was like by his teammates. From what I've gathered so far in off-season there are at least six teams, probably every team who needs a starting PG, who is interested in him. That speaks volumes about what the head honchos who are truly in the know think about him.
