Default T.J. Ford Update

Sam sets the story straight and makes it clear that when Ford returns to the line-up, that we're liklely riding Jose the remainder of the way as the starting PG.

Anyhow, apparently his rehab is going well so we can only hope that he's back in the line-up soon.

Mitchell doesn't want to put any undue pressure on Ford to perform. On top of that, Jose Calderon, who has been starting at the point in Ford's absence, has played well, averaging 13.8 points and 9.5 assists while shooting 51% from the field this month.

It was obvious, why would you want to put that pressure on TJ. It looks like he will be back for sure, good news, TJ + Garbo + easy april calendar = could be some great playoffs.

I see a lot of people reading between the lines here Myself I'm waiting to see what actually happens... but this sounds like what i've been saying... until TJ returns AND IS 100% Jose will start. 100% healthy, 100% in shape, 100% back on his game.

Oh yeah... sure... this was EXACTLY what you were saying...

Please... what Sam is doing is completely within common sense and it's the OPPOSITE of what you were saying. Sam didn't make a point of saying anything about what he would do if Ford was 100%. In fact, i'd venture to say that they wouldn't bring Ford back into the lineup untill he was 100% or pretty damn close to it.

No my friend, Sam is saying exactly what me and others were hoping he'd say. That he'd ride Jose out as the starter for the rest of the year because another option wouldn't be the right one.

IMO you're reading into this report more than me(ala 'what we've been hoping he'd say'). I've been saying all along, back and 100%. There are no direct quotes from Sam in this article, just second hand reporting of his comments. Not putting pressure on him means that he's not going to be rushed back in and that with Jose they have the luxury to do it that way. It is common sense but it doesn't mean TJ has lost his starting job...it means until TJ shows he's ready to take it back he won't.

Again... since we're just reading second hand statements it's best to wait until we actually see what happens but I maintain that when TJ is back at 100% he will be starting and i'll bet money on that

do you honestly think sam is telling us what he thinks? Whatever he said/meant is irrelevant - he can and will do whatever they decide when the time comes. And a lot it depends on what plans for the future they have with TJ - do they want to trade him, or take a chance on him.

C'mon now people. What has happened every time TJ has gone down? TJ comes off the bench. So why is this such a shocker, and why assume anything else will be determined long-term because of this? It's about him and the team re-establishing a rhythm and chemistry, and not upsetting the chemistry that has developed while he's been away. He's got to find a new fit into what has been extablished on this young team.

I can see TJ taking on a little lesser role (or just a different role really) due to him and the team wanting to ensure that his career doesn't go off course due to health concerns. I think it might be considered best if he plays all out as usual, but for a few less minutes, and maybe a little less pressure on him. He could be a great sixth man, and play small minutes in games where he wasn't needed so much (especially on defense), and bigger minutes, including the end of games where that is more appropriate. But we'll have to see.

And if Jose does not get out and run and find some early offense tonight, like Sam says they've been working on, then him being the starter for the unforeseeable future doesn't make me automatically giddy. There's much yet to see there as well.

Thats Is what I mean, its going to take a long time till TJ is back 100%, so outside of who do you prefer as a starter, It doesnt have any sense to put pressure on anyone.

Jose should definitely start until TJ is 100%...no question

I completely agree with this. As great as TJ is, he is only valuable to this team if can contribute over the long-term and be on the court when needed and not retired due to injury. He could be really good in a sixth man role, something like what Barbosa is doing in Phoenix with slightly fewer minutes but with strong impact and energy off the bench. The downside is he might have to abandon his all-star ambitions, but the positive is that you would get the best of what both Jose and TJ have to offer and a great chance to get this team to the next level. The question would be, could he accept such a role for the sake of the team...

Myself - I don't see it as a stretch for TJ to accept a role that is very important to the team's success while putting his family and friends a little more at ease, and allowing him more of a chance to make his mark on this game for years to come.

He could be celebrated in the same manner as Barbosa, but also get accolades for his defense and clutch play at the end of games. In many ways it could be a step forward for him, given what he faces with his body
