Default T.J. on FAN590 with Chuck at 2pm

Chuck mentioned in his blog today that he'd be speaking to Ford this afternoon. For any of you that have access to FAN590, can someone post a summary here please?

I caught it. There was a lot of chat.

They talked a lot about how great John Lucas is, and TJ went over his history with the guy, having played with his kid and knowing them since he was a kid. He trusts him. Chuck thinks he has a spirit that makes you want to listen to him. TJ wasn't too sure how to respond to Chuck's nutty observation.

They talked about the Portland game. TJ sounded like he really enjoyed it. He made a point of saying that Bosh is playing at a high level and putting the team on his back, while pointing out how CB took over in the second overtime.

They talked about the tough schedule this week of 4 games in five nights, and TJ just said no biggie.

They talked about the pick and roll a bit. I think this happens every week. Chuck seems to lack for good questions. Big surprise.

TJ said that he hopes Horford doesn't get booed, although he expects him to some.

He said that he expects to be mentally stronger than before, once he gets back. He sounds very determined.

He signed off with "I need some love tonight Chuck" (something I imagine he says before games) and a good laugh.

Good news.
I thought about it and big man will have respect for TJ and draw less contact when he drives in, they will be scared to be the ones who could * potentialy end * his career.

I'm gonna say the week after the All-Star weekend. Or we can hope he returns that soon.

You can't worry about when TJ is coming back. What we have to do is find another point guard to spell Jose. Jose is playing big time minutes just like the big time point guards in this league. Jose was asked during his interview if he was getting tired his answer was no. He said he wants to play....now that Jose has gotten a taste of starting and playing all these minutes how do you tell the guy your going back to the bench. It just isn't going to happen, he has shown to the basket ball world he is better.By the way I also have great tickets in February and I hope Jose is still leading the team and logging alot of minutes because I want to see the team win just like the game I was at against portland.

It gets me excited to think that TJ is gonna come back to this team. As good as we are with Jose at the point, TJ is still a good player and if he's healthy we'll have a nice team heading into the playoffs.

Man you are in for one big disapointment...Jose knows his role or haven't you been paying attention when he's interviewed?? He's the first one to say he want's TJ back and that before he was hurt TJ was the team's best player. The only way we'll know for sure of course is in the offseason wherever Jose decides to sign but your question about how do you send Jose back to the bench.. how to you put TJ on the bench when he has been the team's starting guard and has done nothing in his play to warrant losing that job? When TJ is back and 100% (to quote Sam) "Ya'll better get used to it, but TJ is our man to start".

Sorry but I won't get over it. Jose always says the right thing. Aways politically correct. He is a classy team guy.A guy that every team in this league would love to have on their team.Jose is a young Steve Nash in the making, he is only starting to show all of us what he can do as he plays more. His shooting has come along way and will continue to get better. TJ is good but the differance here is that Jose is good and alot smarter then TJ.TJ with his spinal issues will always be a concern and because of this he will never be able to log alot of minutes because he would just be alot more prone to getting injuried. I see TJ as a part time player, a player that will only play and average about 20-25 mins a game tops.Probably less if Jose continues to open eyes in the league.

What you say is only going to happen if one of them are traded or sign with a different team. This isn't a debate...TJ Ford is the starting guard for the Raptors until he's traded. Jose has to decide if he can live being the backup. This isn't about who's better..this is reality. While both guards are on this team and healthy TJ is the starter...everyone associated with the team has said it from day one and nothing's changed.

Not after.. before...often, from the moment he was signed onto preseason this year..and nothing's been said to the contrary. COme on people...you dont' put an 8million dollar starting point guard, drafted 8th overall with TJ's skills and potential, as well as character and leadership on the bench just because he was hurt and his sub is a starter-quality point guard that is playing extremely well. It's not happening get used to the idea...and it's good for the team(although that part is subjective). Some of you may think he dribbles too much and passes not enough..but that theory didnt' get him a bench seat before he was hurt and it wont' get him one after.

Right, but I made this distinction because I think it's very important. This is my point of view. From the middle of last season, I was of the opinion that Jose is the better point guard, but TJ has more potential + he's signed long term - so it makes sense to keep him as our starter.

But, since then a few things happened. Jose is playing at a very high level right now, and will be soon considered an elite point guard in the league. TJ suffered a life-threatening injury and the team wasn't sure for 1 month if he'l ever play again. Combine these two factors, and tell me this: do you think the Raptors will give Ford 8-10 millions/year at renewal time (on a long term contract)? Would the Raptors give Calderon such a contract this summer?
