Chuck helped the team win.
I doubt we'll ever have an announcer that will be able to do that.
Doesn't matter what he covers, when you're able to push a team as an announcer, that's a pretty good bonus.

how can you guys come on here and typ such hateful stuff about a guy you probably have never met. he was a good dude, a nice guy, worked hard when he was here, and was pretty funny. Just because you guys are super intense basketball nerd who are clearly too good for his schtick, yet also too good for Leo's opposite sctick, its doesn't give you the right to say the shit you say... "he's a phoney". Really??? OCme on man.

hateful stuff? i don't think many, if any, are commenting on him as a human being. we're commenting on his on-air persona, which was/is phony, contrived and childish. he's the raffi of sports broadcasting.

The players would regularly ask him when he called the game over, when he did his sayings.
They enjoyed it.
They wanted it to happen so it lifted them a bit to play harder regularly.
He was a boost for the players, the players would keep trying to work to increase any leads they had in the game to get the sayings out faster instead of just trying to ride double digit leads.

One of his kids was ill, and he had to move to seek better care I think...and also he was on rocky grounds with his wife...and he tried to go back to salvage his marriage...and it didn't work. He got divorced two years ago.

Thanks. I had heard rumblings about his marriage, but not his kid. I hope his child is doing well.

While I agree with all of the critiques re: chuck swirsky, I will say this:
When he was in his nickname phase, which, was all the time, when Jose first came to the team he had decided to name him "the Conquistador", a term which I found quite offensive given its genocidal and colonial implications. I emailed him about it the next day, voicing my concerns and he got back to me in 20 minutes, apologizing, explaining that he didn't know that side history and never uttered it again during a broadcast. Respect.

Speaking of another offensive nickname he had for Jose - Spanish Fly?

During a broadcast he mentioned that Mo Pete hit the first three pointer of the infamous consecutive games streak sometime in '99, which was impossible because he would've still been at MSU, so I emailed him and politely pointed it out. He sent me back a very curt email and blamed the guys in the truck.
