Raptors Training Camp starts SEPT 28...and the first game is Oct 6...Now please don't tell pre season games are not important....If mike Tyson got knocked out in one of those first 18 matches he wouldn't have been viewed as the scariest athlete to ever dominant a sport. Raptors only have one week to practice with each other. They are obviously going to have some weakness especially playing against a team that didn't change 12 players. Losing pre season games can have a negative impact on the team.

What I don't understand is how coming they get to practice only one week and than play games right away? Obviously we are not going to be as good of as a team the first month. I hope we play well...but I wont be disappointed if we didn't because I understand the situation....May be 2 or 3 month we will click and go on a hot streak.....

Patience and Hope...

Rasho, Bosh, Jack, Calderon, Bargnani, POB, Douny will have chemistry right from the start. It's the other guys. Hopefully our chemistry gets built fast like the Celtics did.

sorry, but IMO pre-season games aren't important at all.

they're important in terms of working off the summer rust and for the players to get to know each other (again), but other than that who cares about winning and losing pre-season games?

the training camp starts on Sept 28, but the team will most definitely be holding team meetings and get togethers at least a week before hand. its not just like they say "make sure you're there on sept 28"... they probably have set times for you to get settled in TO and will hold a series of personel meetings and chemistry builders beforehand.

Yeah BC said a couple weeks ago that the coaches would be in Toronto in early September and that a week or so later (probably mid-september) most of the players would roll into town for meetings & pre-workouts and physicals.

Agreed.

Relating boxing to basketball in this case doesn't work.

I respectfully disagree with you....preseason game shows the the NBA league the firing power you are coming with...Intimidation....toughness ...can all be shown..if they lose preseason games and than they play the same team in regular season...the team that beat them will have mental aggression over them...believe me...the reason I relate boxing to basketball ..because of the Intimidation factor....most boxing matches are lost or won when the boxer stand infront of each other before the fight....Intimidation and mental power plays a big role in any sport....s

disagree.

Preseason games usually don't involve regular rotations and minute distributions anyways. Winning is secondary - it's more about trying stuff out and seeing how it works - if stuff doesn't work, it's no biggie.

and i can't see the intimidation factor being there due to preason games. I just can't. Maybe it becomes a factor after some regular season matchups, but not after preseason ones.

nah, i'm not buying it...
you mean to tell me that if LA goes 0-4 in the preseason, teams are not going to be intimidated by them?
i agree preseason games are important for teams like us because they allow the players to gel and create chemistry... its not by any means the be all and end all.
its preseason... big whoop.

Intimidation factor? In most cases, most of the elite players don't play a lot of minutes. We went like 6-1 in preseason a couple of seasons ago and started the season 2-9, so that BS you were referring to about intimidation and how important exhibition games are means absoluetly nothing. If anything, it's important in trying to build chemistry and cohesiveness, not to win games...in short, what fancy and Insider said.

fancyclad...pre-season games aren't important at all?! That's crazy talk man!

Pre-season is when the players learn all the plays, sets, get to know each others weaknesses and strengths, coaches get an idea of what the rotation is gonna be like, team gets a chance to gel (in this case VERY important), bonding, get their game conditioning back up etc.

...all this is important man!

To me it feels like 9-10 months since the Raptors season ended, lol. This time of year is torture for me. Just start the season already.

OK. allow me to clarify....

Pre-season is very important. Pre-season games are not important at all.

and hell yes, this part of the year is torture. rosters pretty much set, but nothing going on for a few months.... it's no surprise some people get carried away with some debates when there's nothing else going on.

Exactly. And you might go so far as to say that the games play some importance for one or two players competing for spots, maybe, but that's about it. Winning those games means zilch.
