Thank you.

Being in Canada hurts in acquiring FA's, not in retaining ones who have already played here.

Bosh will have been here for 7 years and by all accounts loves the city. He's not going to leave on some "I want to play in America" BS. The guy has plenty of exposure already via his "entertainment" and his status as a member of the Olympic team. So basically, his decision will be made based on what's happening on the court and what's going to happen in his bank account. Bottom line.

As for no one staying in Toronto...Vince got traded. He re-signed, it's not like he bolted. Sure, you could say he stopped playing well to force a trade, but his time here was up and everyone already knew it. Same thing could well have happened with any team in the same situation. Canada and Toronto had nothing to do with Vince leaving. McGrady wasn't a star when he left, and Toronto couldn't afford to give him the money that Orlando did, because Vince was viewed as more important. Again, nothing to do with Canada or Toronto. Simply a decision that had to be made due to financial constraints (I may be wrong there, because I don't totally remember the specifics, but I don't think he expressed an overwhelming desire to leave Canada) Alonzo never played here, so you can go back to SuperJudge's point on that one.

This is wishful thinking from a guy covering the worst team in the league. Nothing more.

I remember 2 years ago when an Orlando paper was saying that they should go for CB4 (I think) with pretty much the same reasons ... And last time I checked, there were more high profile players bolting from Orlando than from TO. They lost Shaq and McGrady in their prime, we've only lost McGrady after his rookie season ...

But what can you do, some people are just morons who can't tell Canada on the map, so you can't ask from them to analyze this with a clear head ...

First of all the Raptors have one of the best GM's in the leaugue and one of the best/extensive scouting and coaching staffs in the league and are a team on the rise. Secondly, visiting players have seen the nightlife here and it's one of the best in North America and it's one of the most multicultural cities in the world. And other than McGrady bolting and Vince asking for a trade most other players have enjoyed playing here w/ more fan support here than in most markets.

Add to that VC signed a long term deal to stay here before being traded.Bosh has signed a contract extension, O'neil seems happy to be coming here. This guy should get his facts straight.IMO this is one of the more attractive markets to play in. Better than Memphis,Minnestota,Seattle,Atlanta,Milwaukee.NJ,Wa shington,Orlando,Indiana.Portland etc..........

He replied, he spoke for a while back and forth.

He claims some pretty decent sources on Bosh.

Said it's not a good thing, but that the players are soft, and don't like the immigration hassels.

Sources on the Bosh thing?

Now that interests me.

First of all, this guy is a pretty respected beat writer if I'm not mistaken. I've read his stuff before, and it's never jumped out at me as sensationalist or attention seeking. He's often linked at places like True Hoop or Slam, so clearly he's taken seriously by those in the business. Writing him off as full of shit is quick.

My initial reaction was that this article was simply speculative. Something to drum up some interest during the summer. After all, everyone is talking about the summer of 2010, and he's basically resigning to the fact that the Heat don't have a real shot at Lebron, so he's looking at the next best option. Fine. That's no different than a Raptors writer, or any of us, speculating what the Raps can do with all the cap space we have in 2010.

But sources regarding Bosh makes this story a whole lot more interesting in my opinion.

Did he indicate exactly what those sources were talking about? Is it specific information regarding Bosh? As in, he's already seriously considering not re signing, or is displeased with the city/organization/team. Or were the sources speaking more on the players don't want to come to Canada issue?

As far as the immigration hassles go, I don't see how a Miami based reporter would have any further insight than we all already have regarding players playing in Canada. I think it's an issue that is played up a little too much. What free agents have actually turned down Toronto based on it being in Canada? John Salmons?

A winning team and a big contract will solve almost any free agent issue. The Raptors have been relatively low on both for a long time. Until I see a player turn down a big contract from a contending Raptors team, I find this issue in general hard to get too worked up about. It happens everywhere, players leave for more money, a better team, or a better situation.

I mean, Baron just left 16 million on the table to get out of Golden State. I'm pretty sure that's never happened in Toronto. Does that mean they cant keep/sign free agents?

lol , which immigration hassles, it's like they stand in line for a passport photo ... even if there were hassles would be handled by his agent/lawyer etc.

It takes a while to cross the border due to paperwork needing to be checked and all. But still...Ira is good, but he's got nothing right now, and the team will have nothing much for some time to come, other than hopes, and so it's time to dream a little.

Let's even say that hypothetically, this is true, and Miami does have a chance at signing Bosh in 2010.

Could he even play with Beasley and Wade? That's a frontcourt that's going to struggle defensively and on the glass. And that's 3 guys that are going to be looking for alot of shots.

Assuming Beasley turns out even close to as expected, that's two max players already. They want another? Besides being wishful thinking, I'm just not sure that would actually be a smart move on or off the court.

I think crossing the border 15-20 times a year (at most) is not enough reason to leave even 1 million on the table ... I also think there's a lot of value in a player staying with a team for his entire career, kind of puts you in a more select group of people.
