Step away from the ledge ...

The season is young, we were only supposed to win 40 games IF everything goes our way, injury wise and player wise. Instead, bargnani, fields, ross, davis and (imo) JV are underperforming compared to expectations, we've lost our best player for half the games and we've been very unlucky against Indiana and Utah.

Still, we've been in all but one game, despite playing 7 teams forecasted to make the playoff. Demar is showing signs of becoming a very good player, Lowry looks like a keeper and JV, while very raw, is clearly not going to be a bust. Ross only had 7 games to prove he belongs, so you can't draw any conclusions.

As for Bargnani, I'm in a minority (understatement of the year), but I don't think he was that bad. He started really slow, conditioning may have been the real culprit, but he's moving much better lately and he's starting to pick up his scoring. I think Casey will have to make some adjustments at both ends, but not all hope is lost for him.

Making the playoffs is probably a lost cause now, but that wasn't the main goal. Hopefully, by February we can make up enough ground to be in that 3-5 teams group chasing the final spot, even if last among them, so we have some hope.

But the biggest thing that should keep your spirit up is that, if things don't improve, and we do end up sucking badly, by next summer we'll have a team without BC, Bargnani, Jose, with a very promising core of lowry/demar/JV and potentially a top 3 pick (if we suck really badly ...) and that's not such a bad thing to build upon, especially if we can get a decent pick out of bargnani.

The only scenario that would really be dissapointing is to lose the lottery pick and not converting Bargnani into a good asset.

I was enjoying your post up until the bolded. then it all just... ugh

playoffs a lost cause? you realize there are 82 games in a season right? you realize we're going through/are almost done our toughest stretch of the season right? you realize KL is coming back right? you realize fields will be much better once healed, right?

just.. ugh, could've been a very refreshing post. had so much potential :)

no moremilk, we need to panic and blow up the team because that's what good teams do when they are faced with high expectations and start off bumpy.

I'm sorry moremilk, but getting into the playoffs was, and still should be, the main goal. That's what management promised and so it would be extremely disappointing if after 8 games we would already start tanking... I saw last year what it's like to tank. I hate it. It hurts, rooting for your team to lose and lose big. Players lose their motivation, the arena is empty, it sucks all the fun out of this game. I can't go through another season of tanking, and neither should you. Imagine telling a guy like Lowry he should tank the rest of the year, I'm sure he'd slap you in the face. :dead:

High draftpicks don't guarantee a better future so I can't put my hopes on them. All we have is this roster, this coach, and this GM. News flash, that star SF probably isn't coming before the trade deadline, so we might as well stop with all the Gay trade proposals.

There's a lot to like about this roster. Kyle is an obvious improvement, Jonas is looking fine and Demar is earning that contract. Things will be fine once we're back at full strength.

I'm still excited! :yeah:

Agreed, people around here are going off the deep end. We've had five out of six losses turn out to be pretty close. But with the upcoming schedule, if we can finish the month 6-11, we'll be fine.

Boston
Orlando
Philly
Charlotte
Detroit

San Antonio
Houston
Memphis
Suns

red= winnable

make Boston red and Philly with Houston black

If we don't make the playoffs than this is the definition of a wasted season: barely any player development besides Val, one of Lowry's two years gone, no pick. And even if we're a good enough team to go .500 the rest of the way, we still won't make the playoffs.

I'm upset at the slow start because they knew how hard the schedule was early on and how important that made the winnable games in the first fifth of the season. The way Casey's rotation started off is not excusable because we had a whole preseason to define roles/lineups and we were even without Lowry for part of it so it's not as though we didn't know what to do without him.

Worst of all is people don't seem to be realizing that if we do fail to make the playoffs, most of, if not all, the changes this 'minority' of panic-button pushers are hoping for now will simply happen at the end of what will have been a wasted season. :cookie:

I'd rather see a new GM, coach, players to replace Jose/Bargs/Ed/Ross/Amir, etc. starting now so maybe next season we can come in with the playoffs looking like a lock.

this is why you need to step away from the ledge, when you actually think every game is winnable and when they lose you think its the end of the world
