Raptors Stein: Raptors still want to pursue Gasol

Quote:
Raptors president Bryan Colangelo, in the wake of the Gay trade, is now openly acknowledging that he's shopping former No. 1 overall pick Andrea Bargnani. The Lakers' interest in Bargnani remains a matter of debate in the midst of the Italian's worst-ever season by far, but the not-for-public-consumption message that continues to emanate from Canada is that Toronto remains intent on pursuing Gasol even after trading for Gay.

At a news conference Friday, Colangelo acknowledged that the Raptors are prepared to stray into luxury-tax territory in the "right transaction." One source close to the situation says Gasol is a guy who fits those parameters, depending on the rest of potential trade principals besides Bargnani.

So we'll see, over the next 20 days, if the Lakers change their stance on Gasol's availability ... and if Toronto can even assemble a package to tempt them without Jose Calderon's expiring contract to attach to Bargnani.

BC did a good job buying low and selling high on the RG trade.
I hope we get something decent for AB, even if it doesn't happen before trade deadline.
He's at the bottom of his trade value right now

My guess is Bargnani and someone else. Anderson? Kleiza?

I feel like the Lakers might push for Terrence, though, and that might kill this deal.

Sick that you guys want to settle for Pau when we could get so much more by adding AA and Landry..... those guys are amazing, remember?

We are trying to dump our clutter at the wing, and that doesn't include Ross.

Bargnani and Fields for Gasol... don't know if the Lakers would do that though.

Also I want to add, with the new CBA all these superteams are becoming superteams of 2. We already have one in Rudy Gay, we need one more big contract and I think it'll be much easier to get now that we have Gay.

Pretty sure that we'd have to throw Ross in there to keep the Lakers from hanging up the phone.

Doubt they're taking Bargs, Fields or Kleiza without getting something promising in return.

We'd probably have a better chance at Gortat.

Well, if he is after Gasol, Bargnani would absolutely have to be involved for the financials to work - I doubt Lakers will take a pile of our overpriced crap instead.

If, and that's a big if, LA's need for a stretch four to pair with Howard outweighs their reservations with regards to Andrea's aloofness (Kobe and Nash will take care of that in a hurry) and if BC is sold on Gasol (Gasol's feet are worrying, to say the least), then the trade even makes sense for both teams.

It gives us a starting centre who knows how to play at both ends of the floor, provides JV with an awesome mentor and solidifies the rotation up front. It also allows Howard to operate in the paint while an extra oppossing big is glued to Bargs in the corner at all times.

Adding Fields works financially (assuming LA is going to take him) and adding Gasol either puts us on a brink of luxury tax or right over it, so some manipulations will probably be required to shed a little salary (like amnestying Kleiza).

But the likelihood of Lakers trading Gasol for Bargs and Fields, IMO, is very small. Those arrogant fucks are used to fleecing others, not being fleeced.

I think Gasol will be tough to acquire. The Raptors just don't have the pieces unless they're willing to part with JV or Ross. The Raptors probably have a better chance at landing a guy like Milsap (although I think he's the wrong fit). Nene would be a good fit. The Raptors should also call the Rockets to see if Patterson is available.

I would no way in hell give up Ross for an aging Gasol. I'd rather get Gortat as well, hell or even Scola.

I am be in the dark here, but while Gasol seems like a perfect fit, I don't want his 40 year old knees here. No way should we trade Ross for him, I would trade Demar first before Ross.

Let me dream for a sec.

PG: Lowry (Lucas)
SG: DeRozan (Ross)
SF: Gay (Anderson)
PF: Johnson (Acy)
C: Gasol (Valancunas)

Yep, a well-balanced roster

Kleiza is our leading candidate for amnesty. Because of on going injury he is untradeable.

We could package AB & Anderson for Gasol but we might need a third team to get the salaries to match.

Does anyone think LA would be interested in Gray?

Their system needs a shooting 4 man to get huge wins. That's Bargs. Gasol is unhappy apparently, as a bench player. This could still happen.
Lowry
Demar
Rudy
Amir?
Gasol
That's top 4 seed material.

Gasol was a fine idea if he was paired with Jose.
Calderon is gone, so no

The lovefest for Gasol is crazy here. Unless we're sending Landry and Kleiza too, why bother bringing on a guy that's likely only to have more injury issues going forward than he has the last two years, which has been plenty. There are many better options

Fuck it, get another 3rd team involved. Work your magic Bryan.

LAL: Bargs, prospect from 3rd team

Raptors: Gasol,

3rd Team: Anderson, LAL pick

Lowry/???/JL3
Derozan/Ross/Fields
Gay/Fields/Pietrus
Gasol/Amir/Acy
Valanciunas/Amir/Gasol/Gray

I'd still rather try to land Derrick Williams tbh
