Starting to look forward to this summer...

This season is pretty much done. So, with that being said i'm starting to look forward to this summer. One thing is for sure it will be the most interesting summer in years in Raptorland.

Some of the questions to be answered:

-Who's our next coach
-Who to draft
-What to do at our SG/SF positions
-If we keep AP /Trade deadline, do we re-sign him?
-Do we keep Moon
-If JO isn't traded by then, dou you trade him this summer
-If you can't sign Bosh to an extension do you trade him
-Delfino??
-Get a veteran PG

BC will be a busy man, and while not all these questions will be answered? Most of them better be otherwise this season might be just the begining. This coming summer, especially with BC picking "his" coach going forward is make or break for him imo. I've liked alot of what Colangelo has done but the next step is never easy.Often times there is a stumble, is this our BIG ASS stumble before starting to climb the eastern confrence standings?

This season is not lost ... I mean, Raptors may not make the playoffs, but they have to work on their issues, to improve and eventually finish on winning note. We still can see some trades bringing over here some some young prospects to evaluate. Why not trade AP if the plan is not to keep him around? I am still eager to see if Andrea can keep playing at high level for the rest of season. The same goes for Joey. Also, I want to see more playing time for Roko and rest Jose, don't kill him this season making the next Alvin Williams case. These may not be the exciting things like in summer but certainly is a lot of things going on in Raptorsland. The true character of players is brought up when they are losing not when they are winning. Let's see what they are made of, can they pick themselves and at least play some decent ball, giving us hope for the next season?

I'd keep him or Nate tho. We need at least one tough guy on the boards.

Are you kidding me? All I asked was Andrea and Joey to keep playing well, Roko playing more with Jose getting more rest and play some decent team basketball.
A trade or two involving our expiring contracts and start to evaluate some young prospects was more like a wish.

What exactly do you doubt?

Why not? We have a very easy schedule at the end of season. As bad as Raptors looks right now, they are not really THAT bad.

bosh is gone, we need to trade him asap, everthing is starting to make sense, why are we playing so bad? because everyone on the team knows Bosh wants to leave, who wants to follow the guy who quits on his team if it is true

pissed at the fans for booing, he is growing resentment

Chad Ford, SAS, and J Rose all said Bosh will leave

we need to move him now, collect draft picks and go into the draft immediatly, the longer we wait the worse it could get for the raptors,

at first the assertion that Bosh wants to leave is laugable, but now put in all these factors, its starting to add up

In my opinion, this summer BC needs to get Bosh to decide if he's going to stick with us, and under which conditions (say we need to win a playoff round, or win 50 games or something measurable). Once he has something, he can shop for a big coach and big name in free agency/trades. Because without this assurance, it will be very hard to get both (especially a great coach).

Two other major factors are the economy and the status of Sam. If Sam gets a coaching job, it will make it easier for BC to spend a lot on a new coach. If not, I have a feeling that he will go to Europe instead, since the only way to get a bargain is to convince messina or blatt or somebody like that to come to the NBA.

Beyond that, depending on what we do with JO, how Andreea plays the rest of the season and what draft pick we get (hopefully in the top 10), we might go in several directions. One thing is clear, between the draft and the free agency, we need to get two good to elite pieces at SG and SF.

If things go our way for a chance, we could have a very strong team next season. Unfortunately, the free agent crop is not that great, so BC might have to get creative and use our cap space to pry unhappy stars from losing teams ...

As far as Bosh go, the only one who ever said that Bosh will leave before 2010 is Smith, who is a certified moron. I can guarantee that nobody knows what will happen in 2010. Even if Bosh made up his mind to leave now, if we have a very strong 2009/2010, and say we make the conference finals, why on earth would he want to leave?

Very well said. I agree fully. Colangelo is smart and I'm sure he will know where he is trying to take this team during the summer. He's the type of guy that when you listen to one of his interviews, you can't help but nod and feel that everything is under control. Hopefully it is, even in this rocky situation.

Good post ... specially if turns out the way you want This message makes me remind of somebody who had (maybe still have) in his signature a motto like "I trust Colangelo more than a condom" ... I am looking forward to ask this guy if he still feels the same

I still trust Colangelo, but let's be clear: Colangelo's honeymoon ended last year when he took the risk on JO. The incoming summer will be crucial for the future of Raptors fate, so let's hope he is wiser/luckier than past seasons and he will finally draw the winning hand.

I'm hoping for some serious nuking

I'm disappointed BC didn't even try one minor deal while we were falling, to rejuvinate us. Look what the Kyle Korver deal did to Utah last year, they were like 15-15 before that. Just get some new blood. Too late now though.

Nukeage

I had doubts about this team going in. If everyone stayed healthy, i thought we'd be a playoff team but not a 47-50 win team like some predicted. We have way too many holes on our bench/Backup PG spot and we had Moon starting at SF. Which that alone should have been a huge warning sign. I think if we upgrade the three spot and get Delfino back (coming off the bench), those 2 moves alone i belive make us a playoff team. But alot of this rests on CB shoulders, he needs to shit or get off the pot by the draft imo.

It's possible, but only if one or two trades are made that strenghthen us at the SF spot and possibly at the backup PG position. We'll have to lose only 11 games the rest of the season. And considering we'll probably lose the next 2 games vs LA/NO it doesn't look good.
