Having a superstar doesn't mean you're going to be better than OK. Miami was OK or worse for many years, with one of the best players in the league. So was LA. It's being balanced and complete and being able to dictate play every night that made those teams successful. The Spurs right now do not really have a legitimate superstar, unless you think Duncan still fits that bill. And lookie lookie - the best team in the league.
SA has 4 well above average guys with differing skill sets. And they all take pressure off each other. No one needs to play even 35 minutes. Add a hard ass coach and it's a great recipe. A couple of those guys could be big stars on other teams given free reign, but they only have one aim.

There are no Blake Griffins on that team. I'm not denying the star power - but as you describe it, it has arisen from strong adherence to team principles. Tony Parker could have easily amounted to what Devin Harris amounted to. Manu could have been as lost as Belinelli. Instead you have every single guy on that team knowing what it takes to win and executing it, and each one makes the other one much better as a result. There's your recipe for contending, whether you're lucky enough to have a superstar or not. Having the superstar just offers more room for less-than-stellar team play.

We don't need star power, we need soul power.
