why would anybody give up anything of any substance for marion when you could get him for free on the open market anyways, we cant throw more $ then anybody else at him, unless we are fools. If it did happen, expect little to nothing in return, imo, or ill even admit BC has some swag if he got a starter out of shawn

Because he'd be signed with the Raptors prior to making a deal therefore it would have to be a trade. Shawn Marion BTW would get us a pretty good player, if not BC will let him walk and sign Hedo. |

Vet Minimum (1.3Mil) total= 19.1Mil Odd that BC said last week that if everyone is renounced he'd have 21Mil to spend. |

Marion on either Hornets or Mavericks would actually be quite a good fit for him/them.
the reason they consider doing a sign/trade is because if they really want him, they lock him down immediately and dont have to risk losing him to another team via free agency. i can see Dallas wanting to grab him, but wasnt New Orleans looking to shed its contracts and save money? why would they want to pay out a big contract to Marion? intriguing though... who would we want in return from either team? Josh Howard comes to mind... and i'm sure Hornets are trying desperately to get rid of Chandler. |

Hedo isn't a possibility unless we don't re sign our players (double negative?) b/c he's not coming for MLE money |

Dallas has more to offer in terms of our needs. Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Antoine Wright are all guys I wouldn't mind seeing come back. Jason Terry and Josh Howard would be very nice fits for this team.

Without Marion it drops to about $12 mil and we'd have to renounce Graham/AP/Marion/Delfino/Pops and we lose the $6mil MLE. No way you get Hedo and fill the rest of the roster for $12 mil. Even if Hedo was interested, he'd see how crappy the bench would be and wouldn't sign. |

ya, we would get a good player for marion. your acting as if he's joey graham ugo.
BTW, i never want to see hedu in a Raptors jersey for that kind of money. but, you have to think is he looking to be on a contender because he turned down the magic. i also thought him and rashard were best buds. Last edited by B-RAD; 06-30-2009 at 10:40 AM. |

maybe with the hornets, bc would swing a daniels+wright package for marion. daniels would give us that vet back-up at both guard spots (plus his contract has only one more year) wright is a guy that collangelo was reputedly trying to trade into the draft to take a while back. he's long, athletic, versatile, very good passer for a guy his size, and a solid defender. hey, maybe we could even get some kind of pick consideration in the deal. we'd have a lot of young athleticism on the wing with derozen and wright. it would also allow marion to get $8-9MM

But under the league's arcane salary cap, that $21 million doesn't equal $21 million to spend on other free agents. Because the Raptors will be over the salary cap – which will be made official on July 8 – they can only re-sign their own free agents or use them in sign-and-trade transactions. They can't, for instance, say they won't re-sign their own players and then spend the money on new players. |
