Jermaine comes in at #4.

Redemption this season for JO.

Good health has eluded O'Neal. He has played 44, 51, 69 and 42 games in his last four seasons. Even when he was active, he hasn't been worth in excess of $20 million. It becomes imperative now that he get on the court and stay there, because the Raptors are sinking a lot of their future into the notion that O'Neal can boost Chris Bosh and this team into the upper level of the East. He can't do that in civvies.

arrrgh... Ive seen worse players than JO getting overpaid even on the list. at least JO should get us rebounds and blocks which Raptors really needs... I think the writer has some stereotypes against the Canadian team just like the rest of the American writers out there. I mean I never heard of Raef LaFrentz till I read that article and I have a friend thats a devoted die-hard Blazers fan... I never saw him talk bout that old geezer... I say he should move up to the top of the list for making more than 10 mill a year for his pitiful production. Even Sergio Rodriguez was more productive than him and the Spanish Chocolate was only given a rookie scale contract

He has certainly been overpaid over the last 4 seasons, averaging 42GP.If this guy stays healthy he's worth the money. If he doesn't (like he's been prone to do) he's devestatingly overpaid. The good thing for the Raptors is that he's motivated to get back to his high level of play and motivated because if he can get back to his all-star numbers he gets another big contract. Not as big as his last, but a good size contract. He is now playing for his next contract. He needs to prove over two seasons that he can play at a high level and remain healthy.

Raef LaFrentz had alot of promise early in his career but could never really stick arond with one club or had injury concerns and playing for Denver pre-Melo era could make anyone disappear seeing how pitiful they were. And No offence, but if you're friend never heard of Raef he's probably not that die hard of a fan.

nah I doubt he wont know bout him cuz hes been watching blazers game since he was like 10. What I was trying to say was that theres never anything special about Raef to talk about when me and my friend were watching blazers games (sometimes he kinda forced me to watch it but w/e). But thanks for a lil history lesson

Why? He makes 7 million dollars less then JO and plays 25-30 games more per season.

Last 6 years

JO averaged 46.5 games played, 16.7 per
4 Allstar games and 1 almost defensive player of the year

KM averaged 44 games played, 12.2 per
1 allstar game

Jermaine is definitely overpaid - $20M for anyone not named LeBron, Kobe, etc. is too much. Nonetheless, if he actually is healthy and motivated this season, he will help the team tremendously.

--------

In my view, there's two kinds of overpaid players. There's overpaid players like Kapono, Iguodala, etc. - who get a bit more money than they are worth, but nonetheless they are valuable players, they play a lot of games a season, and are a key part of their team.

Then there's overpaid players who are simply bums who lucked into a big contract - the Jerome James, Stephon Marbury (lately), Adonal Foyle, Raef Lafrentz crowd, who don't even play in games anymore, or if they do are just god awful.

I don't mind a couple overpaid players on a team if they are at least valuable contributors to a team. After all, there's only 5 guys on the court at one time, so overpaying a useful rotation player is often not THAT bad. What drags teams down are the albatross contracts of players who no longer play. That's just wasted money.

The only reason think JO is overpaid is because now he has had injuries and that sort of slowed his career a little, but at the time of his signing of this contract he was in his prime and I think he wouldn't take less then 20 mil from any team

that's a guarantee, there's no way Bosh doesn't get a MAX contract, and as a 7 year veterean, he will become eligible for a salary starting at 30% of the cap, as opposed to 25% as he was the last time. By 2010 it's likely that the cap-space will get close to 60 millions, so do the math. a 7 year contract starting at 30% * 60 mils and with the maximum 10% raise every year will end up in (around):

18, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29, 32

so technically it's possible for Bosh to get 30 millions at the end of this contract ... Not sure if I'm right about the 10% raise, but that's the number I remember.
And you though JO is overpaid ... wait until CB4 makes 32 milions when he's 32 years old

Even if he bounces back he's still going to be overpaid.
