Quote:
The Nets may add P.J. Carlesimo to their coaching staff, according to sources.

Carlesimo was most recently an assistant coach with the Raptors.

I know he's not very popular in Toronto but wanted to give him a chance as a head coach... He has great experience... remember the Portland days?

Meh, I couldn't care less if PJ goes to the Nets. He's overpaid as an assistant and it didn't look like his "defensive expertise" did the Raptors good last season.

He probably is overpaid... coaches are generally overrated.

It's possible that the defense was mediocre because of the roster: When you have 3 starters that are poor defenders (Bargnani, Calderon and Derozan) what kind of magical coaching can you expect?

Yeah, I'm with you about the players being at fault.

It's just that PJ was brought in a year ago for big cash to install a new defensive system. To be honest, I didn't notice any change in the defence in terms of the system. They fared alright in the beginning of the season, but that was because of early season motivation.

The defense wasn't mediocre - it was dead last in the league by a good margin. It requires all-around uselessness from the players, coaches and system to achieve that level of suck.

This was a very odd post. His ability to coach defence, which you acknowledge by simply stating, is negated because he was coaching guys that either chose not to or were incapable of hearing his instruction? Good riddance would suggest otherwise, would it not? Next? Shouldn't you be saying next in regards to new players?
