Does this move mean we won't see Uzoh in a Raptor uniform next season, or Jose?

Deal is done according to Doug Smith.

Quote:
The Raptors, in a very roundabout way, are going to turn James Johnson into John Lucas III.

According to league sources, Toronto will sign Lucas as the Raptors third point guard as soon as the trade of Johnson to the Sacramento Kings for a second-round draft pick finalized.

...

The same sources that confirmed the deal are also adamant it has no impact on the short-term future of current Raptors guard Jose Calderon.

The Raptors would be happy to have Lucas — a 5-11 30-year-old who averaged 7.5 points and 2.2 assists per game in 49 games with the Chicago Bulls last season — as a third point guard, able to move up the pecking order in an emergency.

Big kick in the balls to Uzoh and Bobby Brown. Basically playing for nothing now.

They're playing to get seen by other teams at this point. But yeah, pretty much for nothing.

Very happy! The guy has no fear atleast.

Doesn't it feel like BC is only going after high character guys now? Whether it be via trade or FA.

This sums up JL3 pretty well:

Quote:
The guy is 30 this year;
Played 1200 career NBA minutes;
Averaged a shot every 1:58 last season; (Weems took one every 2:45)
Turns-over the ball more then he gets to the line;
and is a sub-40% shooter.

an uininspiring signing. Couldn't we have kept Bayless instead of this? Unfortunate to say the least, this guy has zero upside and leads me to believe we're lacking on the assistant coach front if we need this kind of player.

I am not a fan of Lucas, primarily because I can't even recall what his game is - but certainly he would cost us much less than Bayless while also being content with 3rd-string status. Bayless would have gone bananas if he were relegated to being an Usoh.

No idea how much Bayless got, but he at least had the potential to still get it and could play two positions though neither that well. But if moving JJ's salary could have done it, I would have preferred it...... I would have rather had a cheaper, younger upside guy to learn behind both Jose and Lowry than a guy that is not getting any better than his mediocre play now.

Bayless got about 3.07M per year for two years.

How about last year? Since his "career" was made up of 4 NBA years spread over 7 actual years, and one of those years he played 2 games, another 13 games. Last year was the first time he broke 400 minutes played in his career (at 726 minutes), and the first time since 2006-07 that he played more than 2 games.

Yeah, he turns the ball over - at the same per 36 minute rate as Jose. Also, gets to the line more often. So Jose turns the ball over more than he gets to the line as well - by a bigger margin.

Sure, he shot the ball a lot. Sub 40% shooter? Sure - but 40% of his shots come from the 3 point line - where he was a .393 shooter last year. And he does still maintain a 25% assist rate - similar to such players as Brandon Jennings (who has similar shooting stats), Darren Collison, Jeff Teague, Eric Maynor, Luke Ridnour, AJ Price, Jason Kidd, Russell Westbrook and Mike Conley (all within +/- 5% of JL3).

He somehow managed to generate a .143 WS/48 last year, and .043 WP/48. Those marks are better than:
a) Every player on the Raptors' roster last year in WS/48.
b) Kleiza, Forbes, DeRozan, Barbosa, Bargnani, and all our scrubs in WP/48.

All in all, I'd be happy with him as third PG, and as backup when Jose gets moved before the deadline.
