Default Sonny Weems is Soaring!

Quote:
Weems has averaged: 8.4 points while shooting 50 percent; 3.4 rebounds; 3.0 assists; 1.0 steals; 0.6 blocks; 1.4 turnovers; 2.6 fouls; in 24 minutes over the past five games. A statistical line that towers over what Wright has been able to provide this season.

And Weems seems to be getting more effective the more he plays. Weems played 30 minutes against New Orleans. In part because of his energetic defense, but in part because when Weems and DeRozan were on the floor together, they ran the ball down the Hornets throats.

In the third quarter, it was Weems feeding DeRozan for the alley-oop dunk on the fast break and both players drove into the paint for easy scores off half-court sets. These guys were fun to watch!
Raptors Find A New Wing: Sonny Weems Is Soaring!

Antoine Wright was under-performing big-time on the season! Is the addition of Sonny Weems into the rotation enough to get the Raptors back on the right track?

I guess Triano is still trying to figure out which players play well together

Weems brings great energy on defence, has amazing quickness and athleticism. He helps in so many categories like assists, rebounds, steals as well as points and allways looks to head up the fast break. He played like this all training camp and didn't even get a sniff untill a few games ago. I said back than that this kid is the real deal and we should develop him right along with Demar. Nice to see Triano was forced into giving him a shot and Sonny has taken it and run with it.

Actually it was Ukic/Delfino, but still a good trade. I would have traded Ukic straight up for a gatarade cup and been happy.

And people scorned me for suggesting he should start for Hedo when he was hurt. For shame!

I still wouldn't want him to start. As much as i love how he's played, he's inexperienced and has played well for what, 5 games? (2 of which was mostly garbage time when we got blown away)Let's give it time, i'm not exactly convinced he won't start taking more illadvised shots like he was doing the first month when most here was cursing him out. I hope the light bulb has gone off and this is what we get the rest of the season, but i can see him being frustrating to watch at times, much like most of our younger players (ie: Bargs, Derozan, Beli, Weems)

Basically what i'm saying is he's pushed himself ahead of Wright on the depth chart...i'm sure you'd agree with me on that one no?

Yeah, but considering Wright doesn't play that didn't take much. He's been a DNP for the better part of two weeks, so Banks is ahead of him in the rotation at this point. Weems playing at all places him ahead of Wright on the depth cart right now. I like Weems right now, but let's wait and see is all i'm saying.

It's gonna be up & down most of the season with our younger players:

Jack- first month, many here were cursing him out, now he's well liked.

Beli- Was praised the first month, now that he's struggling people are on him.

Weems- Struggled the first 5-6 weeks when he played, now look at what's going on

Derozan- Up and down all season (20 yr old rookie), now he looks great

These players will look great for stretches and may struggled in other stretches. They're all 23-under with the exception of Jack. And to say the least Bargnani could and should be added to that list.

His first month he shot 42% from 3 and 45 FG%. He shot better then Turkoglu, Jose, Bargs from deep.

Take a look at these two threads from not that long ago:

A month into the season: Raptors best passer?

2 weeks ago: Who is our best shooter

I still have faith in Beli. He's definitely struggling with his shot but at least he's been active. He's got a few steals the past few games and he's got to the free throw line a few times.

Belli will be fine. He's struggling a bit with his shot which happens but I'm still thrilled to have a player with his skills on the squad.

I knew that Weems had talent after watching him in pre-season... but I figured that he was just going to be another young chucker with very little discipline.

He's been anything but over the last few games. I really like his decision-making and energy. Does he still take some questionable shots at times? Sure... but they're few and far between now and he brings enough to the floor to forgive those.

With Belli and Wright under performing he has shown the Raps brass that he deserves to reveive more minutes then the other two. He has been awesome and his energy is amazing. Him and Amir have been awesome

There's gonna be times when Weems will struggle too. But that's why we got other players that can step up when that happens. Gotta love our bench

When a team has 10 players 25 & under, some nights are going to be frustrating!
