Sonny Weems FA worth?
Ok let's say Weems continues to impress, he's currently averaging 14.1ppg/2.1apg/2.4reb. If he averages 14-16ppg, how much do you think he'll be worth in the open market next summer? What is the most the Raptors should throw at him if they want to keep him?
It's a little early, but since he's a FA and he's playing well i was just wondering what you guys thought about Weems and his free angency next summer. If you had to decide now, would you want him back next season? |

![]() I don't think that there's any question that he should be back next season....
He's a kid with a good mid-range game who seems to have added a 3-pt shot over the summer. He also plays defense which is paramount. It's going to be tough.... because he honestly deserves more than Amir and we paid Amir what $5M per? I'd be happy to lock Sonny up with a contract around the 4 yr. $17M range. I can see him commanding more on the open market though. Esp. if he keeps scoring at his current clip. Some desperate team might even offer him the MLE. |

![]() Either way, who would've thought that Weems would've amounted to anything when he was considered a "throw in" in that trade last season. Wow!

Weems has been playing really well but he has reached his potential. Don't see how else he can improve. I also don't want to get super biased after three good games. Doubt the consistency will be there even with minutes. On another note, I don't think Derozan would mind too much if Weems leaves. He'll get more minutes as a 2 and could move to the 3 position. Raptors main priority is getting a C or PF that would be a defensive presence. Nothing against Weems but we're solid at the SF/Guard positions. Have to spend money wisely on building the team instead of individual players. |

He can still improve. The guy has been in the league, playing consistent minutes what, 90 games? He can improve further from 3pt range and if anything else he'll mature as this season and next season goes on. To say he's reached his potential so early in his NBA career is a little premature. |

Obviously he can slightly improve aspects of his game but I doubt it will make him much better. I mean he's been playing so well recently, what else can you ask for? His shoot has been good... he's making his 3s. Doing a good job driving the ball... aka dunking the ball and getting on ESPN. Decent defense. He's not going to get any more athletic. Any small improvements will prob be diminished by the scouting report on him. He's not a 20 pts a nighe player and it will balance out. |

He's a volume shooter who can do nothing but hustle & score... inconsistently that is. Someone who gets paid 3-4 million could be one-dimensional but it would have to be involve being a defensive stopper (bruce bowen) or three-point shooter (house) Not a chucker who's dropping 12 per on a team that is 6 below .500 Unfortunately, Brian is the type of GM stupid enough to pull out the cash for Sonny Weems, a 4 year deal worth 16 million maybe... I wonder how many people are still for that amir johnson re-signing?? |

![]() considering kleiza is getting about 5M...and amir is getting 6M+
Sonny could easily demand 6M+ or MLE if he remains to produce the way he is... hell, look @ Wes Matthews...he got 5yrs @ 34M...he was kind of in the same position Sonny was in |

![]() Jamario Moon money at best, who is also overpaid..... if it's more than 3M per it's absolutely an overpay. He is a nice piece to have, but not irreplaceable.
At some point, the job and personal life become more important than friends so I don't see an eventual parting of Weems and DD as anything to fear. |
