Exclamation Something's off...

I apologize in advance if another conspiracy theorist has beaten me to this thought, but...

I've just finished listening to Jack's presser. The last part of it, the one where they talk to BC, he kept talking about Jack as an option at 2 and then even mentioned Douby, but not once has he named Wright. Not once, either when talking about Jack or Roko.

Add to this the fact that George and Wright were never formally introduced here, and it seems like BC is ready to use those expiring contracts in a deal rather than have them play for the Raps this season. Could it be that he is trying to use them to move Banks and get someone serviceable in return?

If this has some truth to it, then all our bickering about Delfino, Rasho et al goes out the window since yet another deal could significantly change the composition of this roster.

You are right.

What would we get in return, if there was a deal in play? Draft picks? A backup wing or big?

Depends. I have no idea who'd need Wright so much they'd agree to take on Banks. Or some such.

Honestly, I can't even come up with a plausible trade scenario on the spot, but looks fishy, doesn't it?

you're off, I heard colangelo on the radio this afternoon, and he spoke very highly of wright. He said that carlisle told him last week that wright was the toughest player on dallas' roster, and that bryan will love him. Rick also thought that he was their best perimeter defender, capable of covering from 1 to 3 (which means better than josh too).
And bryan said that his heart melted when he heard that (or something to that effect).

Wright is here to stay, and his and george's value will be MUCH more effective in february, when they could be packaged with banks for a nice 10+/yr unhappy player (like ellis for example).

Not to bust your conspiracy but BC was on the FAn today and mentioned Wright and in fact talked about him with Rick Carlyle and said " he is fierce, tough and can guard 1,2 and 3 posiiton which is what we desperately need." He did not mention George so that conspiracy part can still be in play

i dunno. It's a stretch, but i guess it's possible. I do think it's a bit odd that there hasn't really been any introduction of Wright and George. Mind you, i really haven't been keeping a close eye on stuff. I don't get Raptors TV and i really haven't watched or listened to interviews or the press conferences, but i'll take your word on their 'exclusion'.

So Colangelo has really said nothing about them eh?

Mind you, I actually want Wright to play for us this season, so I'd be more than happy to be "off".

Why didn't he mention him today then? And why has Wright not been introduced formally?

who knows, they had an explanation for that. Maybe they're not that important in the grand scheme (do they do press conferences for all players? Did they do one for POB or douby?)

I like wright too, he could be our bargain defensive stopper, our own, cheaper pietrus.

He was specifically asked about Ukic by the Raptors TV guys.

Personally I don't see why Delfino still needs to be added.

When the trade was first made, BC made it seem like it was definitely possible that Wright could be moved along with George. He pointed out they were both expirings. I think that was where his mind was firmly planted. It might have changed since talking to Triano and Carlisle, but I would guess that is still in the back of his mind.

This was from Doug Smith's blog last week.

Quote:
Looks like we’re going to have to wait a wee bit to meet up with Antoine Wright and Devean George.

The usual thing to do would have had them come to Toronto to get their physicals and they could have had a nice dog-and-pony show for the media.

Well, I’ve heard the physicals portion of the trade requirements was waived and if the two do anything, it’ll be to jet out to Vegas this week sometime to meet up with the Raptors coaches and get summer marching orders from them.

First time we might see them here will be in September when the players start dropping back in for those well-scheduled “informal workouts” that precede training camp.

Actually while on the Fan tonight he praised Wright and said that he was another player that added much needed toughness and that he was a very good defender. He actually brought him up twice.

Wright is staying. BC said it was music to his ears when Rick Carlisle told him that Wright was his toughest and best perimeter defender.

Wright could become our Ariza.

Very long, solid defender, can hit the open shot [has some 3 point range I believe...]

He could develop into a key guy in our rotation playing minutes at the 2 and 3...

I've just listened to BC's today interview on the Fan - music to my ears as well, as far as Wright is concerned. Never mind the conspiracy theories...

I want Wright to stay. He proved last season he can play the starting SG and I hope he will be the starting SG for the Raps too

Wright is a good player that we need to have to solidify that backcourt defence. The only chance I see him leaving is if we don't get Rasho and can't get to any alternative for Rasho. God I hope that doesn't happen.

not to mention that he was ok in dallas, where only dirk and howard have offensive abilities, kidd and dampier/hollins were below average in that respect. On this team, with jose, hedu, Bosh and andreea, he will have it so much easier one would think.

However, I'm just thinking now that if we get delfino and he's starting, it would pretty much be impossible for the other team to double any of our players. That would be one offensive minded starting lineup!
