Doug Smith's 2 cents worth ... time for a change indeed.

There is no doubt that Jamario Moonís play has Ė how shall we put this? Ė tailed off this season. And watching him miss seven of eight shots and get only three rebounds in 23 minutes the only realization a sane-thinking person can come to is that itís time he relinquishes his role as a starter.

Listening, Sam?

But for who?

Well, it has to be Joey, no? And isnít that an indictment, given his foibles?

It canít be Bargnani because Torontoís has so few bigs he has to play behind Bosh and OíNeal. It canít be Kapono because he needs to score coming off the bench. It canít be Hassan Adams because, well, because it may as well be you in that case.

Hereís the Moon moment when it became obvious a change was needed: He finally takes the ball to the basket but goes tentatively and gets his shot blocked and on the next possession hoists a near-airball three-pointer. I swear, before the miss hit the court, Kapono had his sweats off and was at the table.

Graham is a gamble but, really, what isnít with this group after the two bigs and Calderon? Say this, though, when he got the starting gig in the absence of Garbo two seasons ago, and got a chance to play regularly, he was more Good Joey than Bad Joey.

Besides, he can give you 1-8 and three boards in 29 minutes in his sleep.

I say yes, give Joey at least 28 a night and the starters spot, give Kaps the starters spot as well and save AP for the end of the game. Limit AP to about 20-22 per night.

I don't understand Jamario.

I could care less what he gives us offensively. Honestly. Where he's continued to disappoint me is on the defensive end. He's long and athletic and pretty quick yet he doesn't play good defense. That's what's killing me. That's why he doesn't and shouldn't play at all. Last year he was altering shots and doing things. This year, he's become complacent.

Weird thing is in Charlotte he was skying for rebounds and playing agressive and then last two games he goes back to standing around.

Should have started Joey from the beginning once Jamario showed up out of shape and taking every long jumper he can get his hands on.

So why doesn't he start someone else then. He always starts Moon no matter how bad he is playing(which is like now)

I really hope Sam starts Joey next game, I just have more confidence in him right now than Moon. Worse case scenario, Moon starts and plays good on Sunday, keeping his sorry ass in the starting lineup, then disappears the next few games.

I think Sam should sit out Moon for a 2-3 games (meaning no minutes at all). Before the game in Charlotte I thought maybe he's not yet in shape, but he obviously is. So clearly his mind is elsewhere, and there's no better fix for that than the threat of indefinite benching.

That would be mean but I like that idea. Moon would know just what his job is and if he doesn't do his job he will be benched

I think Graham will be starting at some point. He can give you what Moon gives you minus the blocks. But he is more agressive then Moon,he can give you 8-10PPG/5RPG in his sleep and he has more of a tendency to get to the rim.The other factor is, he makes more money! So the 785,000/per guy is playing 29 minutes while the 2.5 Mil/per guy is playing 9 minutes when he (Graham) can do the same thing and possibly more if given the right opportunity!

Hell he's pulling down 2.1RPG in 9 minutes vs Moon's 3RPG in 29 minutes!

the fact that moon is still starting over joey after such terrible showings from moon shows how much confidence smitch has in joey, kind of tells you how good joey's been in practice and what he's shown overall to the coach, which i guess is nothing

actually Joey is very good in practice, according to anybody who's around the team. Joey's problem comes when he steps on the court. If you think Jamario is not focused, wait until Joey plays big minutes for 2-3 games ... Still, if that's what it takes to wake Jamario, it's worth it, even if we lose three games because of that.

I think Joey just needs the game simplified for him. Think Nuke Laloosh in Bull Durham. Don't think, just pitch. For the Good Joey to come out, it's "Don't think, just rebound/attack/play D (take your pick). When he starts thinking about doing too many things in his game, he starts to fall apart.

As for Jamario, how he is still starting is beyond me. It just comes down to roster depth and as we know, there's none.
