Default Some Positive News- JV to possibly work with Hakeem in Summer

Valanciunas May Work With Olajuwon In Summer - RealGM Wiretap

I hesitate to link Smith related material, but he says Casey said it, so hopefully it'll happen. As its been mentioned before, I'm not sure why so many bigmen wait until late in their careers to see Hakeem. Jonas seeing him after his rookie year could reshape his entire career.

I made a thread suggesting this in the summer or fall,if its true I'm thrilled at the potential of JV working with Olajuwon. It will speed up the development process and there's only positive benefits from this. Good on Colangelo and company.

... and I hear Hakeem will be donating his services to the Raptors at no cost, given our generosity in the matter of his retirement package.

IMHO, any 7 footer who is serious about becoming "the best he can be" in the post should take lessons from 3 players: Hakeem, Jabbar and Sabonis. The former appears to be arranged, it shouldn't be hard for Val to find common language with the latter, so somehow, someway Raps need to contrive the way to provide some sky hook tutoring - and Val will have Ph. D. in playing centre.

Pretty sure Jonas will spend most of the summer with Lithuania's national team, preparing and participating in Eurochamp in Slovenia.
If preparations goes the same as last year before olympics, he'll spend some time with Sabonis on court.

He is no longer allowed to do that, sorry.

No offence to your country but unless he's joining Lithuania this summer for the FIBA World Championships or Olympic Qualifying, that's a waste of time compared to working on his game with Hakeem Olajuwon. He could really learn a lot from the Dream, every player known to have spent a good amount of time with him during the off season displayed immediate improvements. If JV could find a way to do both that would be great but, training with Hakeem should trump Eurocamp a 1000x.

Jonas is a patriot and he'll be with national team 100%, but I think it's doable to do both. It's obvious Raptor season gonna be short, so he should have at least couple of months before preparation camps in August. And as I've mentioned before, Arvydas Sabonis trains with the team with JV in particular, so don't undervalue that experience.

Yea I like Sabonis,he should continue to work with him. Maybe he can train with Hakeem closer to training camp so he make an easier transition using what he's learned against teammates in practice.

JV will play this summer in Lithuania team, you think it waste of time or not. However he will find time to work with Olajuwon and I think it can be after season with Raptors before summer. And addition to this he will be trained by a best couch in Lithuania and maybe in Europe. Lithuania national teams coach Kazlauskas is one of the best coach who understand how center has to play. And JV experience in this will help Raptors as well.

All that stuff about the coach and what not, good to know. Hopefully it can traslate to success in the North American game. I know the international styles are a little different.

JV getting major miles on his legs since he was 16. Am I the only one who is worried about it? He is still very young, and all that experience is necessary, but it could become an issue latter in his career.

The experience he has had this year must be an eye-opener. Bigger, stronger, faster, craftier, more skilled and aware of ref's calls. No, you don't want Dwight to test you.

He should work all summer on his game and on his strength. I agree with Butch Carter. Have a focused development of your game in the offseason instead of running around with five guys, which you've done all your life anyway.

Hopefully Jonas can do both. I'd also like to see him beef up a bit. Gain maybe 15 pounds of muscle.

He definitely needs to beef up. He has all the will and prowness he needs to be a good rebounder but his base isn't there. He gets pushed out of position too easily.

I really hope he trains with Hakeem next summer.
